That was the only '10' dance of the night

It's not the first time they've done it either ... what's that about ?

Why do they always look for faults with Jay ?

Why cant Jay fans accept that 36 for a salsa is a pretty great score?

They look at other scores and compare. It's quite simple.

Or they can't accept a difference of opinion. You thought it deserved a 10 and it got a 9, big whoop.

I am a fan and I think his score was accurate, but So many of tonight's dances were over marked that it makes it under maked in relation to those.
It's more baffling that other fans think their favourites got 10 with mistakes and still were under scored

This week (probably just this week), they may just have been right. In comparison with other scores.

ETA - this week, I agree .

Jay was first and set a really high standard for the others. Maybe he became the benchmark so couldn't be given inflated marks?? I was surprised he didn't get one 10 but 36 was still a great score.

It wasn't his most memorable dance for me... Strange, because I know his diehard supporters have been longing for him to have a more upbeat dance, but I've liked Jay much better in the more low-key ballroom dances. Loved his foxtrot even with the stumble

(Mistakes don't bother me so much I guess, as long as the feeling is there)

If we all accepted everything, it would be a very short discussion board

If we're talking "comparing it to other scores" then 36 is the second highest score ever for a male salsa (outside of the final) and exactly the same score as Mark Ramprakash's (iconic, showstopping, talked about for series afterwards) routine got the first time it was done.

It was a very solid '9' dance for me. Had they placed it later in the show, it could have got a ten or two, judging from the rest of the dances. So I suppose overall he was maybe undermarked, but 36 seemed like a good mark for that dance.

Besides, if it fires up his fanbase to vote, great. No complacency is a good thing.

And if everyone kicked off every time there was a one point difference between what you'd give something and what the judges gave it we'd have a very very very long one.

How many times are we told on this board you can't compare it to last week, never mind 9'series ago?

I've got no problem with the 9s but, for me, he wasn't in right place on leaderboard, he was better than 4th

The consensus tonight on strictly Facebook , blog and twitter is that Jay and Anita were undermarked.
They're not helping some contestants by pointing out mistakes and giving them 9s and 10s. Ive seen a lot of people complain tonight about Georgia and Helen scores.

36 may be a " fair score " but the problem is that if any other celebrities performed that same routine, they would received at least 1 10. Especially Peter.

I really think that it was underscored and he didnt deserved to be 4th on the leaderboard tonight with that routine. He should have been 2nd at the very least.
Lastly, he should have closed the show. The order was wrong this week. Anita also shouldn't have been on so early.

Please see post above. It wasn't his score, it was his place on leaderboard for me. But then I don't think they've got the leaderboard right much at all this series.

We all used to take comfort in fact even if scores were wrong, they ended up in right place on leaderboard by & large.

I would have had him top of the leaderboard, but then I understand that on a night when there was only a 4 point difference between 1st and 6th, and that most of them danced well, and it was Blackpool, that I might not get everything my own way. Shit happens, he's not going anywhere, and he got a great score.

Well , I take comfort in the fact that it wasn't only jay fans complaining about his scores . I've seen people who don't even support him say that they thought that he was undermarked tonight.

If anything, this is only helping him gain even MORE public support.

It probably is a fair score (I'd have given a 10 but I'm biased ) But compared to the rest of the nights dances, and some of the 10s being handed out, it does look like he is being undermarked.

I thought that it was a really good dance, well executed but it didn't have a the wow factor that say Anitas had for me. Now, I know that many of you on here (most?) know all the technical details of dance, I don't I'm just a...well.. whatever a person that knows bugger all about it is called, but I know what I like and I liked hers better.

However I still think that it was a great dance from Jay especially as I think that latin is tough for celeb males. I really don't know what or why Jays fans are so worried, he's still wildly popular and has a devoted fanbase. He'll be there for the final and TBH much as I like a couple of other couples, I still think he'll win. Just enjoy the ride..

Sure but in a series when Jay fans are complaining about his music, his outfits (especially his pockets) and the order of his dances, you'll forgive me/them (or maybe you won't) when there's actually something *potentially concrete to get annoyed about.

*wonders what potentially concrete actually means. A bucket full of aggregate and fluid cement? (hasn't an effing clue what that is...)

Well I started the thread, and I'm not a Jay 'fan' ( I've loved Giovani and Gorgia ) but the fact that he clearly takes on the most difficult and technical dances and is not recognised by the judges for having done so ( pretty impeccably for the most part ) is becoming more and more obvious.

And Craig banging on about him not pulling enough faces is getting old too

I wonder why it didn't have that wow factor? One of the lifts was pretty insane in terms of difficulty (the kind of thing the Jordan's did well in their glory years, but together, not with celebs). Maybe he carried it off so well it looked easy?

On what basis - because he's got the curliest hair...or because of something even more ridiculous?

Jamelia should have closed the show - on the basis that she is the only contestant still standing not to have yet done so...

I think Jay does some things brilliantly, as good as any male celeb, but is still just moderately good in some other things he does. Until the judges see an all round excellent performance they might not give more tens.
