Absolute cobblers. For a family show, the death toll in Who is, and always has been, flipping huge! First time I've seen it suggested that 8.10 pm is "too early" for Who to start, mind!

I was hoping for some human-esque emotion that reels you into the story. Brilliantly done with Donna's exit. Not this deadpan panto surrender.

To be fair, I'm no prude, but I did think it was a bit much for a kid's show before 9pm. I mean, you see the life leave her eyes, and then she crumples to the floor.

It didn't affect my little brother at all, but it made my heart sink and left my veins running cold. I'm usually the kind of person who sits through a horror or thriller movie waiting the next person to die, but there was something unnerving about Clara's death for me. I'm not complaining, I thought it was brilliant drama.

They're in for a massive shock if Resurrection Of The Daleks ever gets a repeat on the BBC for some anniversary celebration. The death toll in that one story amounts to a whole series for some New Who.

Not at all worried by the death.. the kids have got to face this kind of thing.

However I am writing to the BBC and my MP about the prominent protrusion of Ms Coleman's breasts.

I was aghast at how the flimsy jumper showed the bumpy bits to such effect and, repeated viewings this morning has only increased my outrage. I have the screen on pause whilst I am typing this and it's all I can do not to go into an apoplectic rage.

I can only be thankful that at least Patrick Stewart didn't have any involvement in the script otherwise things could have been infinitely worse.

That's pretty amazing acting by Jenna Coleman if you actually saw the life leave her eyes, given that Coleman did not, in fact, die.

As the OP said: artificial tabloid space-filling. Most of these kinds of articles are actually supportive of the show in their way. Doctor Who, as one of our proud national treasures, has a lot of goodwill with journalists and the media. It's easy to see from a cursory look at the reviews for any episode that the show rarely gets criticized quality-wise and when it does it's very gentle and never consistently criticized episode to episode. The media loves Doctor Who and they know it's a good subject to write about as it has a lot of interest and is an article that potentially draws in younger readers. What they write about it is not really too important. In fact, such a leading article is so overly-strident that it draws rebuke and does no harm to the show whatsoever. And I think they do actually know that.

The media, in general, does not want to hurt Doctor Who. It's a point of nationalistic pride and a great resource for them to write about, particularly in mind of the family audience.

I still think I saw Jim from Neighbours turn blue that time he died of a heart attack actually on Neighbours and not in any of his thousand-or-so subsequent heart attack roles.

It was only slow because we saw it in slow motion. The raven went through her, she immediately dropped dead. There wasn't even any blood. I don't see what the problem was.

I wanted to say this

Its funny isnt it. So many variables involved in finding such a scene moving or at least it provoking an emotional response and while some will find it terribly sad others will remain unmoved. I thought it was brilliantly done. And quite subtle which makes a nice change from the overblown melodrama of the Ponds and indeed Donna Nobles.

If one wants to see pantomime level emoting in action just watch the second part of her exit scene- the first bit with just her and Ten is wonderful. But when they return to the Noble homestead? Oh dear. Talk about saccharine nonsense. That guy off the Wombles losing any control over his bottom lip and Tennant trying his best to make sad puppy dog eyes ('This ones for the ladies at home!') and just to make sure you know its REALLY REALLY SAD...Its raining to! I made the mistake of watching the first repeat of this episode with family and friends who were at best indifferent to DW. That said they enjoyed the episodes and had jolly good fun up until those final scenes when the room was filled not with mild tuts of disproval but full blown derisive snorting and sniggering at just how laughably over the top the whole thing was. Especially when you consider on the scale of things it wasnt really much of a tragedy at all.

At the time I was furious that they could mock it in such a way but I have since realised they were to a degree right. Its cringe inducing stuff. Contrast that to the beautifully quiet sadness and rage of Capaldi. No contest. Funnily enough I have seen complaints from some fans that Twelve didnt run to Clara and hold her body and cry etc because 'thats what Ten would have done'. I think thats exactly the point and thank god he didnt.

I was agreeing with you up until the BIB - Tbh I think it's what anyone would have done if someone they loved had just died in front of them. But I do see your point in that the quiet sadness and his rage, was way more fitting to the 12th Doctor (And fantastically played by Capaldi.) Just my personal preference would have been for him to catch her when she fell. But I'm a soppy cow

How dare you, Mr Fingers. I really liked that scene with Sir Bernard and poor old Donna back to her blasé self. Thought it was quite downbeat and understated from memory. 'course it helps if you adore Donna. Which I do. (Or should that be How *very* dare you?)

Not being serious. And after the whole Rose/Doctor/Other Doctor scene, the only way was up for me personally in that episode. And absolutely agree about how Capaldi played it yesterday. Powerful stuff. And we've got more 'severely peed off' Doctor action to come. I am genuinely excited about 'Hell Bent'....

I think it's safe to say the Doctor isn't trapped on that island with the Veil... the Veil is trapped on the island with him.

The stand out part of Raven was Capaldi and I found his Doctor resonated for me perfectly.

I think that looking at his face told you all you needed to know about how he was feeling and it's a bit of a sad reflection on our over dramatic and maudlin society today that people feel he should be throwing himself on the floor and wailing in a "look at me , I'm sad" fashion.

Perfectly played by Peter and the writers, probably the only decent aspect for me in the episode.

Ha. Maybe I am being too harsh. I was just using it as an example of how differently people can interpret such scenes. I loved Rory and Amy for instance and yet on the grand scheme of things I dont think their exit was particularly effective and I utterly hated the bit when they jumped off the building. Whereas many others found it to be a beautiful moment. I personally think every companion exit will be forever chasing Doomsday and I would be surprised if any ever matches it at least for many many years. Its the pinnacle of exits, Unsurpassed. And thats despite the appalling return to Bad Wolf Bay which we just dont talk about. Its better that way.

With regards to Clara I also quite liked the fact that her ultimate sacrifice was not only very small scale but that it was also something of a mistake. As Ashildr said 'I didnt expect anyone to do something so stupid'. Rather than sacrificing herself to save the entire universe Clara tried to help a friend with the best intentions but due to her increasing recklessness and arrogance she made a massive error. But then still faced the consequences with honour and dignity. It was very Clara Oswald. Human and fallible and proof that if you run with the Doctor for too long...

I forget which review it was but I'm sure someone said that Capaldi manages to evoke pages of emotive dialogue with just his facial expressions in those final scenes or something along those lines. I think thats very true. I wonder how much I would have found it a success if not for him. Probably nowhere near as moving. Despite Jenna doing some good work I found her bossy nature and tendency to tell people what to feel and shut up was rather jarring although to be fair quite in keeping with her character. But Capaldi was majestic.

I felt quite shaky and emotional after the episode. Just before, and during the death scene my heart was pounding 19 to the dozen! It took me nearly an hour after the episode had finished, to recover.

It was quite shocking how she died, I must admit. IMO, not suitable for anyone under 10 years old.
