Gabby and Penny dance-off caused a right rumpus - series 5 I think?

Tonight reminded my husband of that row - and he's not a Strictly fan.

What they weren't expecting was the huge gap in the execution of the routines by Peter and Jamilia, to the point that even a complete novice could see she was much better than him in the DO.”

BIB I think you're spot on Laura and that's why Darcey had her head in her hands. She was the only one to try to justify her choice.

Last night's spoiler mole reported that at the end of Andre's dance the audience did not give a standing ovation,. The audience were then instructed to stand up and applaud for a "second take".

Certainly fits with the idea that the result was directed by the producers.

None of this is Peter or Janette's fault though

They could admit that Jamelia was the better dancer on the night and withdraw. It's not their fault that the producers told the panel how to vote but if they accept that panel's decision they are in fact colluding in a deception (that the better dancer on the night was saved) and that is their fault.

It did look rather odd in the show. Peter finishes his routine. You see a wide shot of the audience, clapping, sat down on both sides of the ballroom, then back to a close up of Peter and then a close up of the right hand side of the audience now stood up clapping.
Tess then walks in from the left past the audience on that side who are clapping but sat down. Only the right hand side gave him a standing ovation

By that reasoning all the dancers who continue, all the wardrobe, make-up, lighting, and the fans who continue to vote are colluding in deception too

Didn't the mole also say there was a lot of booing after the result and she wondered whether all that would be edited out?

I just caught up on IPlayer and thought people were overreacting but there really was a very obvious difference between the two, Jamelia upped her game and Peter seemed to get worse rather than improve. I'm not a fan of either of them so I can't say I am sad to see her go but if the judges really are meant to judge based solely on the dance off performance then Jamelia should be through quite easily.

He should be when he was given a 10 he didn't deserve just to keep him and his partner out of the bottom two .

I'd have refused to stand up if I'd been there.
How dare they decide how the audience have to react to a dance?
A standing ovation should be a spontaneous and deserved reaction. This farce is just getting worse and worse.

If they want to keep their pay cheques, it would appear so.

I just listened to the judges picks with my eyes shut - when Tess announces Peter and Janette are through, the crowd cheers, but in a very standard way.

When Len declares that he wouldn't have agreed, but would have voted for Jamelia and Tristan, the crowd cheers far more enthusiastically, and it sounds more spontaneous and less polite.

Me too . Seems like the audience act like a bunch of sheep in such circumstances . Just because it's free doesn't mean you have to do their bidding . As you say a standing ovation should be spontaneous and not demanded .

Last night's farce will have done untold damage to the reputation of SCD, plus now we have the pros joining in, intimating a fix .

English

Didn't he and Lilia used to choreograph for the Turkish version or something?

Darcey looked particularly sheepish when giving her flimsy excuse as to why she chose Andre

So would I I remember going to see the xf tour years ago, everyone loved James Arthur I couldn't stand him I think I was the only person sitting down but I don't bloody care I'm not standing clapping someone I dislike, I'd be doing the same with Peter .. banned from the Tower but it would be worth it

strictly lost it's shine around two series ago. Ola is right there are too many celebs with prior dance experience now.

I have watched an episode of the show before and he does his critique after the dance in English but announces his score in Arabic.

Absolutely - and in the interests of fairness. Peter and Janette should withdraw from the competition.

I cannot believe that Strictly is 'fixed'. This is doing Peter's profile no good at all - first his trial and now this.

I had friends there so asked them about this. They said there were standing ovations for both but one wasn't captured properly so they redid it. If you look at the footage it's not a massive ovation slotted in, it was just a few in the front row and then Mrs A's row, so not sure if this is as manipulated as it sounds. They did agree that Peter's jive wasn't great though!
