No she isn't. She's taking a break for 6 months.

Eileen has more than earned a break from Corrie.

Let's just hope that this isn't the last we see of Emily though

I'm not at all surprised that at her grand age Eilleen is taking a break but it's good to hear she intends to return.
She was bound to wind down to a gentler pace at some stage.

Goodbye Eileen, if I was the TPTB, I would give her the boot.

Yes I know she is old, but she often takes months off, so why announce it, all she ever gets is a few lines, in the pub or in the shop, any of us could manage that.

I notice there is only a year between her and William Roache, she hasn't bought much to the show for years, while William gets proper storylines.

Richard Hillman, should have done a proper job on Emily..

She's 85 she won't be back

Oh please go travelling with Spider! That would be excellent. I hope he comes back to take her away. They can go and protest the Paris Climate talks together.

Another soap star with ideas above her station, thinking Hollywood and it's bright lights is for them

She'll be back!

I agree with this, I truly find Emily a boring character and uninteresting, she has done nothing for years, and dare I say it I don't think Eileen is in great health, her appearances are declining more and more which could be a reason for a break.

And before I get accused of being ageist, I like older characters such as Audrey, Norris, Ken.

Mr Pitkin finds it shocking that this character is given such dispensation and allowed to stay without having storylines in years.

She'll do a lot better than some of these young whippersnappers with ideas above their station. I heard she's starring in the remake of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.

Good luck to Eileen - she's one of Corrie's cornerstones and well deserves some 'me time'.

I agree that an announcement wasn't necessary. Nor is giving the character an exit storyline. She rarely appears these days and I'm sure she's gone 3/4 months between appearances in recent memory so what's a couple more.

Don't you think? She's a very long-running character though. And if she'd just disappeared, people might have speculated about the actress's health. This way, they explain her absence - and she gets a decent temporary send-off. It's only very recently they lost Anne Kirkbride, so I guess they are maybe more sensitive to exits at the moment.

I bet she does a runner when someone suggests it's her round down the Rovers. For years she's been happy to take advantage of whoever is buying whilst spouting her happy clappy bible nonsense, but as soon as it's her round, she'll be out of there like a shot, the skinflint.

I think she has been a great character over the years and has earned the right to just 'be there' without having big storylines!! She still brings something to the scenes she does have & there's many, many characters I would axe before her!! Hope it isn't health problems!!

For the record the storyline with her & Ernie's killer in 05/06 where he came back from his prison release looking for forgiveness remains one of my all time favourite Corrie storylines!! Superbly written & brilliantly acted!!

Would anyone really notice? She barely appears and might be lucky to have a few lines every few episodes. All you see Emily do is gossip with Rita and Norris, drink in the pub or help out at the church. She never has a storyline or a connection to one. She's a waste of a pay cheque as far as I am concerned. Regardless of how old she is. She's one of many actors on that show who is simply there for the sake of it or nostalgia.

Are you personally paying her wages?

I hope it is a genuine break and not like when we were told Anne Kirkbride was going on a break but really she was ill.

I like Emily and I think soaps need characters like her to balance out the high drama characters. Not every character has to be always doing something
