just thinking about it after seeing a post on facebook BBC page about him with hundreds of comments with people saying what a shame it is he never got a full series. and how brilliant he is in the audio dramas. (i personally think he should have been in the 50th instead of john hurt)

is it at all feasable he could play the doctors next incarnation, perhaps as some sort of regressed regeneration but not quite regressed as he would still be the 13th incarnation, what could the plot be? would the BBC even consider it? i am certain Paul would play the part if asked...

No objections from me. Would it be a good idea though, on a wider scale?

I don't see why not have him guest star, for an arc even.

If Moffat doesn't want to leave as showrunner, but needs a year off, they could easily create a scenario where somebody tries to interfere with the Doctor's past and do an Eighth Doctor series, culminating in a two-Doctor story with both McGann and Capaldi before carrying on as normal with 12.

It'd be better than having a year without a series, would let somebody else take control of the show without interfering with the current Doctor and would be more straightforward than having 8 and 13 being the same but different.

Nope, the "Next" doctor will be a woman no doubt. Probably on the younger side

Btw, I thinks it hilarious some fans have no idea PM and PC are very close in age.

He'll never appear as the main Doctor, but he could easily pop up in a multi-Doctor story, as could John Hurt, if he's well enough.

He might guest star again but even this is unlikely. But being the Doctor again or having a spin off? You must be joking. Its not that i am necessarily against the idea- personally I think Moffat should have just used him in TDOTD instead of making up the convoluted War Doctor stuff (no offence to Mr Hurt who was brilliant anyway) - but I just dont see it. Its in the past now. It makes no sense to bring him back. Best to just enjoy the melancholy that comes with realising we missed out on potentially one of the best Doctors ever and blame circumstance.

I think that'd be the most realistic scenario: full-time production takes another year off; the BBC commissions some sort of BBC3 (ie, by then web-only) series of minisodes ala Night of the Doctor.

It'd give them a trial run for the next generation of the production team too.

... though I'd still rate that outcome as maybe a 1 in 100 shot.

To answer the question posted in the OP's thread title... I have it on excellent authority that it has specifically gone to David Morrisey ...
