CS-.Emily Nugent Bishop Needs A Proper Send Off- Hoping Eileen Derbyshire Will Return
Shane Parrish
24-11-2015
I really hope Eileen Derbyshire will return in 2016. Emily is the shows longest female character and deserves not leave without returning. I really hope she is not ill in real life. Long live Emily and her sweet sherries

I just saw this on The Sun's Twitter. She's been a great character and will be missed. I wonder how far Rita will be behind her?

Eileen Derbyshire is fiercely guarded about her personal life, and a big fuss/party/series of tribute TV programmes about her would be the LAST thing she'd want.

I suspect this is her way of making a low-key exit under the pretense of a 'break'

She's taken long breaks before without having them announced.

Sad if true, but she IS 84! If this is the last we see of her, then she deserves it. Classic actress.

I do wonder with it been announced like this, if she may not be returning afterwards. I only think so because she has taken long breaks for a few months before and they have just been unannounced and unexplained on screen.

I wonder if they considered bringing back Spider for a epsiode, He is mentioned, as Emily going to him,

He was a good character

Just what I was going to post. He was indeed a good character and I'd love for him to return to explain why Emily won't be around for a while.

And I really hope people will stop posting spoilers in their thread titles!

Anyone know when or if she's going to return? It's been well over "a few months". She's one of the shows greatest character and any tribute to her is going to need to be 2 hours long to even come close to doing her justice.

Okay, thanks, so if she's returning, then it will be next month. It was so stupid having her go to Peru as if she'd travel that far at her age, they should have just left us to assume that she was still there on the street, but just not shown her, like Rodney in Emmerdale, he hasn't appeared since January, and no explanation has been given, so it's assumed that he's still there, just not leaving his house

That doesn't really work when you've got a lodger, Norris would have to show signs of stress about Emily's reclusiveness and alert Rita or somebody, which would involve Rita going round to check on Emily - doing those scenes without Eileen Derbyshire would be more ridiculous than her going to Peru,.

The last bit about Rodney not leaving the house was a joke What I meant was the actress could have still left, but they just wouldn't have shown her over the six months, but in the fictional world of coronation street she would still be living there.

Not really, the could have just kept her as the streets resident, and always on call, baby sitters.

They don't seem to have bothered writing Andy out, even though he's out of the show for a while doing a play with Les Dennis.

There was something about her exit, all her friends gathered next to the car to wave her off etc etc that screamed this was her last episode. She's done the whole disappearing without being officially written out tonnes of times over the years.

They should kill her off screen.
