Cora is a vile character (Eastenders)
Is it just me or has Cora changed into one of the most unlikeable and vile characters in soap land? The way she turned a blind eye to Vincent, "breaking into" Dots house in exchange for money, being horrible to Denise despite her bringing her food and a hot drink, not to mention the way she treated her own family when they found her living on the streets. I used to like Cora - especially her scenes and banter with Derek Branning - and Ann Mitchell is a perfectly good actress, but I can't stand her character nowadays. Does anyone else feel the same way or do you like her?

I think it's an interesting s/l. We know that alcoholics are spiteful and devious and that is what we are seeing with Cora (not that she was ever all sweetness and light). At least she hasn't killed or attacked anyone yet, which makes her practically a saint compared to many on the square.

The character has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, never has and never will. I can only assume her only purpose is to be a hate figure.

She had no support or help from anyone when Stan died. I know they never married but they had a strong loving relationship. It was hard for Cora to open up to another man due to her husband's death many years ago. The Carters never even had the decency to inform her about his death. It's no surprise she has gone down this path.

Vile is a bit strong. Given the behaviours and actions of so many on EE it is odd to hone in on Cora as the vile one.

I don't really get the point in her anymore tbh, Only Abi left on the sqaure and even her concern lasted all of 5 minutes, she been living in a shed ffs since what the start of September, all we've seen of her is roaming about in a few scene every now then, didn't DTC say something about it seeing aout the care of the elderly, I haven't seen any of that.
Not even Dot or Patrick probably two of her closest friends at one point give shit. |

I don't really see that much difference to be honest. She has always been selfish with a nasty tongue. Look at how she showed no remorse for Dot's troubles when she fell behind on the rent for the Conunci. And before anybody say, it isn't her fault that Dot had sublet to too many people, the matter would never have come to Their attention if Cora had kept up with the rent whilst Dot was awayband then she refuses to help clear the arrears. She only came in to start with because her anti social behaviour had got her evicted from her last home.
Her turning a blind eye to breaking and entering is just an extension of her putting getting alcohol before everything and everybody else. Which is sadly very true for an Alcoholics. Adversity brings out the worst in many people and Cora is one of them. She's about the lowest she's ever been and whilst she must rely on the kindness of others, she's not going to thank or be nice to them about it. It's just not in her nature. |

I love Cora. She might not be to everyone's taste but I hope they develop her more during this storyline. She has been in the show 4 and a half years now and deserves more screen time.

I really like Cora. I'm interested to see where there take her with this story. Cora may not be the model citizen but I'm glad she isn't, I like characters who are frayed around the edges.

Ann Mitchell is the best Actress in EE, long live Cora and let's see her back on the Square next year, Tanya & Abi should be ashamed of themselves!

Exactly this! Not all characters mellow once they get older, the likes of Patrick and Pat both got nicer as they were older so I am pleased they haven't done this to Cora.

Patrick has always been nice
It is true though, some people mellow, some get more bitter and it is nice to have a reflection of both. And some of course are nice when young and stay nice in old age. Others the reverse and i suspect Cora is in that category from everything we've been told about how she brought the girls up. But that doesn't mean she isn't interesting to watch and ot is heartbreaking to see anybody, especially an old, vulnerable woman be homeless, even if there is a karmic quality to it. By which i mean, if she had been a better Mother, Tanya and Rainie might care more about where and how she is now. Which isn't excusing them, i believe she should look after your parents no matter what but if you have been a negligent Parent, it is maybe not a surprise if your children neglect you back when the time comes. |

Can't stand Cora!
She's a stupid character and a useless actress IMO. All that under breath stop-start talking and head-wobbling gets on my bloody nerves! The storyline again is crap because we have t even been shown what happened to make this silly cow like this?!?! |

The storyline again is crap because we have t even been shown what happened to make this silly cow like this?!?! BIB 2 Yes she does sound out of breath and wobbles her head but the character is an alcoholic so maybe that's why? Either that or Ann Mitchell was in poor health through no fault of her own. To be fair it has irritated me too. I still like her though. I don't think it's a crap storyline as there are lots of people including vulnerable women who are on the streets including in the bitterest winter days. Hostels near where I live cater for men only and lots of hostels are dry, in other words they won't take drinkers. By drinkers I mean alcoholics like Cora. Some hostels are more easy going but it's hard to get a place in one. Hardly any take dogs so lots of people are out on the streets with dogs. (I know Cora doesn't have a dog, I'm just rambling sorry! ) Some hostels too prioritise young people so it's difficult for a homeless, drunk and older woman to find a hostel place. I'm glad this storyline is being done but my god the block story lining is ruining it. Yes it's realistic that someone can be on the streets for months so maybe that's why it's gone on for so long but I would like to see more detail in Cora's story ie trying to get a hostel place and being turned away or put on a long waiting list. There is even a soup kitchen near me that refuses to allow drinkers in for a meal. If they see you drinking outside or smell alcohol on your breath you get no dinner. It's very harsh out on the streets especially with all the cuts. Also in Westminster cafes stopped selling hot drinks after 11pm a while back. I don't know if that's changed yet. I think this is to deter beggars and homeless people at night. OK Cora isn't in Westminster but I'm just saying. To be honest I think it would have been better to give Cora the rape victim story line rather than Linda. Partly because it would show how dangerous it is to live on the street and also because the whole Linda's rape storyline became about Mick and Shirley. Ann Mitchell would have acted her socks off. Of course the rape storyline was to show family members and "good looking and charming" people can rape but I still think it would have been better given to Cora especially as she's older. It does happen to older women too including much older women. Oh and if people find the character of Cora "vile" then Ann Mitchell is doing a good job if she makes you feel that strongly about Cora. If you don't like a character because the actor is rubbish then it's different but Ann Mitchell is doing a good job especially as her scenes are not the best written and are few and far between. There could be so much more for Cora's story. I'd much prefer to see Cora's struggle on the streets rather than the pointless boring Mitchell lunches ordered by Sharon whose acting from Letitia Dean is dreadful. Just what is the point of Mitchell faaaammillyyyy lunches and dinners. OK they needed to have Ronnie snatched by bent cops but really they could have done that differently. The sooner the Mitchells are in pieces the better. I'm pretty glad it's Vincent who will be their downfall. OK Gavin has had a hand in Phil's decline but the cop thing has made Vincent interesting again. Vincent was one of my favourite characters until all the Kim stuff when I went off him. Now I love him again. ♥ I'm looking forward to Vincent's victory. At least there had better be a victory! I don't think people can take much more of the invincible King Phil crap. I hope he gets liver failure from excessive drinking. Maybe Gavin should have put heroin in the room with some tin foil along with the Scotch to bring about Phil Mitchell's permanent decline.... ![]() Sorry for the essay but I needed to say it
