Karen Hardy's comment about Katie's lift.
dippydancing
24-11-2015
On ITT tonight she said that Katie made an error on the lift at 1.20, and "maybe that wasn't even the lift they meant to do". I can't see what she means, and it's certainly the lift that they showed in training with Erin's tips for improving it. What am I missing?

And as for Hardy saying that the celebs should just continue to sell the dance if they make a mistake- the one thing that Katie is not short of is selling a dance!

I do feel that sometimes Karen Hardy is just treading water with some of her critiques rather than having something specific to say.

Thought that was a bit of a mean comment to Katie and Anton.

Katie has definitely gone wrong in the part leading up to the lift, but I think the lift was as planned.

The lift was definitely as seen in training- but maybe she missed a leg kick at 1.19. But the fact that I didn't notice until the 4th or 5th viewing shows that Katie did indeed "style it out".

I thought the comment just showed Karen hadn't done the basic homework of looking at the training footage since we'd all seen that lift rehearsed as it was performed. I thought she recovered well from the obvious mis-steps up to the lift. Karen is right to point out the importance of not making mistakes at this point in the competition but bizarre then not to mention the dog's dinner of mistakes and mistiming in Helen's Charleston which were so much more obviously numerous than Katie's.

Well it was difficult to spot the mistake because I think her feet weren't in the shot so we didn't get to see the stumble. But if you look at the top line, you definitely saw a wobble and it was very likely that something went wrong in her footwork. But she did cover it up pretty well I thought.

It was kinda like Jay's foxtrot mishap, except his stumble was more glaring. His feet weren't in the shot but his stumble/trip was so obvious just looking at his upper body that it was impossible to cover up.

I think what she meant was that because Katie had gone wrong and not recovered, Anton lifted her earlier than planned and did a longer lift. At least that's what I understood from her comments.

Yeah- maybe. In which case, it does seem a little mean-spirited to then point it out after they both did exactly what she said -style it out and keep on going.

I quite liked Karen on Choreography Corner when she first started doing it, but I have to agree that she's most just waffling. Those couple of weeks that Joanne did it, she was far superior. As much as I like Natalie, she and Kristina weren't as good as Joanne either. They should give the job to Joanne permanently.

I think Joanne would prefer to be a contestant with a celebrity, rather than just turning up on ITT and making comments on the other contestants.

Did you see on ITT today when Kellie said Kevin had told her to pretend 'you're a wardrobe' made me smile because that sort of teaching and explaining dance must have been the way Kevin and Jo were taught as kids..

The fact that she said that Anita's paso was the best she has EVER seen on Strictly leaves me in no doubt that Karen is now just towing the party line and she has lost my respect for good.

I used to like her and value her opinion - no more. Joanne Clifton is now far superior in that role imo.

When Karen is bad she's really bad and last night was quite a below par performance from her.

Gun to head - "Watch what you say, Karen. There's a younger, better replacement in the wings."

I thought the performance, drama, look, and feel of it was perhaps the best she has ever seen on SCD (?)

I have to disagree. There was little or no Paso content that I could see; a lot of what Len would call "faffing about". She was stompy in her footwork and her armography wasn't great either.

It was all fur coat and no knickers for me, I'm afraid.

I would have accepted her comments on Katie even though I think she was a little harsh and the lift was definitely the one they rehearsed, the problem I had with her was her totally overlooking the mistakes Helen made. Not sure why she would do that. Her comments too about Anitas paso - which I loved by the way but even I could see it was more posturing and visual drama and short on Paso content. She seemed to be in an odd mood on Monday too. I like her normally but didn't feel comfortable with her o.t.t.ness this week.

In terms of a female celebrity led Paso, I'd say it's way ahead of any other.

She captured perfectly what the character of the dance was.
