Seems like vodafone are following EE with a freebie. Only 50gb for a tenner but some might be interested

I'm amazed they are doing that.

It occurs to me that if EE and Voda can dump large data allowances for pennies we're all being overcharged for the meager allowances being doled out on monthly and PAYG SIMs.

Is there so much free network capacity?

It only lasts a month, then presumably you are back to only 500 mb a month.

Quite a comedown. I guess they are also betting that most people won't use anywhere near 50 gig.

I've grabbed one to see what the network is like. The coverage round here is a basket case at best, but apparently my house now has Voda 4G so let's see what happens. I doubt I'll be leaving EE though!

I've been quite impressed with Voda 4G - the 800mhz throughput capacity is low, but it handles lots of users during a business day more gracefully than 3G. The indoor penetration is better than EE's 1800. I have a Vodafone data account and can get 4 to 6mbps reliably during business day, same speeds outdoors, and 15 to 25 in evenings - with 4 out of 5 bars.

On EE data service (1800mhz) in the same location I get 1 or 2 bars, and around 6 to 8 mbps during the day (slow due to bars - faster outdoors) and in the evenings see 38 to 70 mbps.

YMMV .

Got one of these myself and managed to get 66mbs download speed, albeit near the mast, although inside my house I'm getting between 25 and 40 which is pretty good!

I would never touch vodafone you wait till they start stealing money or when you need help or want to leave they never give you a pac code they refuse to help swear at you when you try to get a problem sorted hang up or just don't care.

No because I'm sure this is just an incentive to join, then it goes back to 500mb or something and a lot of people don't actually use it and may only use 1GB etc

If you have 50GB of an allowance, use as much of it as you possibly can.
