I would not be a happy soul if Harry wasnt at least on the shortlist for next years event.

In terms of newcomer I think hes the best new casting the show has had in the qualifying period for this award.

I think if TPTB put Harry Reids name forward they wouldnt be disapointed on awards night.

Lets hope the people at the BBC who decide which names to put forward to the longlist agree with us!

I can only assume this is sarcasm about Harry Reid.

Some of his acting particularly when he's required to show anger and other emotion has been atrocious, some of the worst in Eastenders since John Altman as Nick Cotton.

I actually preferred the previous guy who played Ben and don't actually know why he was re-cast yet again.

Nope no sarcasm at all!

If Ricky Norwood can win this award then Harry Reid whos much better than him certainly can.

If Les qualifies then the actor playing him - if we get to see more of Christine. Otherwise the actor playing Vincent - he has certainly come in from nowhere and become a major character and presence very quickly. Although we have hardly seen Paul Coker - the actor playing him is very expressive and seems like a good actor.

No. He wasn't on the nomination list. Think it was Richard Blackwood.

The anti-Harry feeling on this thread is frankly disturbing Hilda. I feel a few punishments need dished out, perhaps a dose of Elaine singing "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" by the Nolans on a repeat loop will teach the Harry nay-sayers a lesson

Josh Pascoe the previous Ben lives round my neck of the woods.. Legally i don't think i could mention why he left.... Anyways, I'd rather see the actor who plays Lee Carter up for a nom... prob an unpopular opinion

Sorry datewise he does -Jacqueline Jossa joined EastEnders September 2010 and won best newcomer in January 2012-swop that for Harrys September 2014 and January 2016.

I personally quite like Harry Reid and feel he has made the role of Ben Mitchell his own. He at the very least deserves to be nominated.

maybe newcomers were thin on the ground that year.

but EE has had a lot of newcomers this year that should get the nod over someone in the role over a year already

Nope nothing to do with thin on the ground -the same thing has happened several times including Khali Best joining October /November 2012 and winning the award in January 2014.
This pattern is more normal than exceptional.

The beginning of the qualifying period and the cut off period for someone to be classed as a newcomer has stayed the same. Harry may not even have qualified for January 2015 nominations given he only joined several months before at that point in September 2014.

Newcomer awards tend to be for younger actors, new unknown talent. EastEnders has had 6 newcomers in 2015, Claudette, Vincent, Carmel, Paul, Gavin and Kyle.

4 are too old to be really thought of as newcomers and or are already established in their careers.
That leaves Kyle who's barely appeared and Paul Coker aka Jonny Labey -so not sure what you mean by a lot of newcomers this year.

I can't possibly imagine what made me think you weren't anything other than pure as the driven snow!

But seriously I think Harry is incredibly deserving of this.

BIB I am every bit as pure as the driven snow thanks And yes I think Harry deserves it too, on a serious note, I disagree with others I think he can really act and has been excellent since the turn of the year

I don't understand those who say he's been there too long and better people joined AFTER him to win best newcomer?
Ellen Thomas is too old to win best newcomer and she's been in EastEnders before anyway -Paul Nicholls is in his 60s and has a long career, same for Bonnie Langford who's in her 50s,Richard Blackwood is already established and not new talent, only Kyle actor who's barely appeared and Jonny Labey as Paul Coker.
James Bye, Davood, Rakhar all appeared in 2014. Davood around sametime as Harry. I can't see the grounds for saying he's been there too long and overtaken by more recent and thus more deserving competition?? 😕

Your purity I imagine is very debatable!

Like I said Richard Blackwood got the nomination and Harry didn't impress enough to make the acting long list.

I've found the BBC blog with the EE noms.

I find Richard Blackwood as best newcomer as a bit of a joke tbh -it's an award about new talent and he's been famous since the 1990s. I'm not really one of Richards critics either but I do criticise tptb decision on this.
