The parents are paying roughly £200 per child for the day, so a fiver's worth of assorted tat just doesn't cut it. Either do the party bags properly or not at all.

Trouble is Sugar loves it, if you can sell "any old tat" for top $, it's how he made his money.

For me it was Karren chastising Gary in front of his clients, would have never happened in the margaret era. They are there to observe, nothing more

But this was genuinely important. Because the contestants were treating the peanut allergy lightly with a 'Yeah yeah whatever' attitude, but it's something which can literally kill people.
In fact I thought that more would be made of it in the boardroom and that someone would be fired for the peanut allergy reason alone. |

Ok...that's a pretty rare occurence, but well done - you are aptly named. But I don't regard that as comparable to what Karren has started to do week on week, dressing down the candidates in front of clients.

Both of them were dreadful - for two grand I'd have expected EVERYTHiNG to be included - food, party bags, entertainment and possibly a professional photographer too. Never mind up selling to give them things like the party bags....
Gary's team's bags were utter rubbish - not even worth a fiver, and even worse after David and he cannibalised them on the bus. I never spent more than a couple of hundred quid on my daughters birthday parties - we did bowling, swimming, said me thing similar to the games session etc and after paying a per head fee, I think all I had to provide were the goody bags and the birthday cake. Which usually came from the local supermarket. Both families had far more money than sense, and I hope the kids got a decent party afterwards |

If the silly woman can afford to spend TWO THOUSAND POUNDS on a birthday party lasting a few hours, then she could afford to get a specialist company to make a completely nut free cake.
The whole nut allergy thing was bigged up by the producers. It reminds me of an episode of Hell's Kitchen USA, when undercooked chicken is served to a diner. Oddly it missed Gordon Ramsay's quality control AND just happened to be served to the sous chef's pregnant wife. |

It was extremely cringe worthy; it isn't hard to plan a party for 10 people and messing it up so badly wasn't ok for people experienced in events. Lord Sugar was actually quite easy on them. The party bags were complete tat and it seemed to me that it would be very reasonable for this to be included in the price per person. The fact they asked for extra money on this was weird. I have absolutely no idea how they spent so much money on these events as it all seemed cheap, DIY and really unprofessional to me. The cakes were really cheap looking and getting a professionally made cake would have been something expected I would have thought for a £2,000 charge. They also didn't hire any professionals for entertainment which would have seemed like a good idea.

It looks as if they were given a folder with options for activities, food etc complete with pricing per head which they are free to negotiate with service providers-the party bags and t-shirts were presented as part of a list of options for upselling so it wasn't the candidates idea to add on party bags to the price.

i feel you are right, however in my opinion, i thought karen could've atleast taken gary aside and mentioned it, rather than creating more alarm by doing it infront of the parent....
================================================= Yes it was a cringeworthy task but in a good way. The Apprentice is at its best when candidates go badly wrong or when someone performs spectacularly well. |

I completely agree. The clients made it very clear that the wife has a severe nut allergy and can't be in the vicinity of nuts. The team were acting like it was an inconvenience they could bullsh!t their way out of, rather than a potentially life threatening situation. Imagine the lawsuit if the wife had a reaction and had to go to hospital? Karen and Claude are there as much to stop the candidates from doing anything that could put the show in trouble as much as giving feedback.
Put it this way, if I hire a party planner and state specifically that I have a nut allergy and it needs to be catered around then on the day of the party said planner tells me they don't know if my cake is nut free or not I would be furious. It's something Gary needed to be on top of from the get go and it's like he forgot about it completely. If he wants to work as an events manager, he is going to have to work around things like that all the time. |

My concern about this terrible life ending allergy dissipated when the candidates said "it may contain nuts" and the husband said "oh that's fine"

I just don't know why they'd buy a chocolate spread when the nut thing was a potential issue. Just go for a buttercream or even whipped cream and a chocolate syrup through it. Or even a tub of chocolate icing, I've had cake with that as filling before and it's lovely.
I did think for 2 grand their parties were both a bit naff. Surely they could look at the task and think if the parents are spending that much money they're probably looking for a gourmet experience? How hard would it have been to put a radio on the party bus? |

The nut allergy was obviously completely over-exaggerated to make the task more difficult, probably because it's harder to throw a successful party for a 13 year old than an 8 year old.
