I see there's are going to be £25 in Tesco tomorrow so was going to pick one up to install Kodi on.

My TV is a Pioneer Kuro panel & doesn't have any speakers. My PS4 & Sky HD box are connected via HDMI to a Denon AV receiver which connects to my TV.

Can I plug in the Firestick to one of the HDMI ports on my Denon or will it only work directly through the TV?

I can't see a problem as long as the Fire TV stick is connected to the power supply ( or to a USB socket on the receiver for power), it should make no difference if the stick is connected to the Receiver or directly to the TV. It should pass through DD on Netflix and Amazon Prime too.

I don't have the stick butI have the original Fire TV connected to my Yamaha Receiver, it all works fine.

Just ordered it online to collect. It was £35 down to £25 but with Clubcard boost, it only cost me £13 😀
