Help! Broke My 3 Sim Card!
RedOrDead36
26-11-2015
Hi,

In trying to cut to a Nano I've stripped off too much and it won't fit my new or old phone now! (lesson learned).

I want to stay on 3 and keep the same number. What's the quickest and easiest way to do this? Do I have to go through the porting rubbish still even though I'm transferring number to the same network? Thanks.

If you have a 3 store near you they should be able to help you out. There may be a charge for replacing the sim although occasionally they will waive this

Thanks but what about the porting process? Would it be instant as same network?

There's no porting involved, they just activate a new sim on your number.

Yes probably if there were any there, but most phones nowadays will store the contacts on the phone rather than the SIM.

It may be cheaper to get a new sim from a poundland/ 99p store/ home bargains etc. Then use it to do a SIM swap

Unless things have changed you can't use a sim that's already been provisioned to do that. It needs to be a blank sim (no number yet allocated) which you can't get from Poundland.

When I switched to a phone with a nano sim they were happy to swap out my micro sim for a nano. They got a new SIM from the drawer and spent 2 minutes on the computer in the shop, said "here, it'll be working by the time you walk out the shop" and it was

I have mislaid a SIM on a PAYG account which only has £2.60 credit.

I tried to get a 3 Shop to replace it for free but they were adamant that was not possible without paying the £5.11 fee.

I guess that getting a new "free SIM" from 3 and trying to "SIM swap" it won't work either.

I think it depends on PAYG or contract and at their discretion they can waive the fee, but for £2.60 on a PAYG plan they probably thought not.

It's the same when you call up, a replacement sim should be £5, but if you're a long term customer and you've got a good reason then they'll do it free.

To be fair the shop person did say that CS on the phone had more discretion. Must try calling them!
