Never Be The Same Again - Mel C and Left-Eye

Just rediscovering this old classic from 15 years ago and I'm amazed at how fresh and contemporary it still sounds. There is no doubt this was Melanie C at her peak and what a treat it was to have Spice Girls and TLC, the two best selling girl groups in the world, joining forces for this song.
Left-Eye's rap fitted into the song beautifully and like most of her raps, was introspective and meaningful. Her tragic death left a void in the music industry that has never been filled since.
Anyway, enjoy this classic

probably my favourite solo spice girls single.

Fantastic song. The best thing ever to come from any Spice girl. In fact, Mel C's solo stuff is pretty good anyway. Especially the album this came from.

I forgot all about this song until like a year ago when I heard it on the radio. Then I fell in love with it all over again.

Does anyone else prefer the single mix?

Mel C had the best solo output of all the Spice Girls. Northern Star was a strong effort especially the mentioned song, and also I Turn To You. They went very well with the time.

The alternatives are Geri's cover of It's Raining Men and ... well actually, I can't even think of any of the others' stuff.

I liked Geri's Bag it up en Emma Bunton's "Maybe" which I thought is the best solo effort from all of them

I am not particularly fond of Mel C's voice, but Never be the same again was ok

I think Emma consistently had the most rubbish solo material out of all the girls, and then she went down that silly retro 60s route and bombed.
"What Took You Long?" was easily her best IMO.

Probably one of the best solo Spice songs, next to some of Emma Bunton's output. My personal fave solo Spice songs would have to be (apart from this one):

Maybe - Emma Bunton
What Took You So Long - Emma Bunton
We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight - Emma Bunton
Free Me - Emma Bunton
It's Raining Men - Geri Halliwell
Mi Chico Latino - Geri Halliwell

I remember this live on TOTP and Lisa Lopez "owned it!"
Mel C wasn't holding some of the notes.

Out of all the solo Spice singles this is the only song song that I regularly listen to still today (Drown by Mel C is higher on my most played playlist but I don't think that was a single)

I haven't heard it in a while but did like it when it came out. Guess I preferred Northern Star and still do, but Never Be The Same Again was a good track.

Yes, I did and at the time thought it was worth owning Now 45 just to have a copy of the single mix on CD.

There were a couple of examples of single mixes being better than the album versions around that time, though I will concede this is subjective. However, David Gray's 'Babylon' is another such example for me. Babylon album mix vs Babylon single mix. for those who are interested!

Having listened to this for the first time in years I probably agree with you. I just prefer Mel C's style compared to Emma Bunton

And Lisa "left eye" Lopez makes any song brilliant

I prefer I Turn To You and When You're Gone but I really like this song.
