These were available on Amazon yesterday as lightning deals for £9 off. I bought the 4 month movies and 6 month entertainment for £15.99 each. Cracking deals for the best online entertainment and movies service in the UK.

I just paid £29.99 for 4 months movies thinking that was a good deal after going to cancel my 14 day trial.. They give you about 2 chances to cancel then hit you with a one time only deal .. lol. Crafty SKY, crafty.
Still, works out at £7.49 a month so isn't too bad. I've just cancelled Netflix for the duration and also have the entertainment for 3 months when I bought the box. I like the ability to chop and change when it suit you. Not tied to a contract etc. I may go back to Netflix after March.

Good for you then, I just might do the same thing. I cancelled Netflix and will use Now TV for 3 months, then see what is what.

I added a Now TV sports pass for 1 week to my existing now to.

I take it they don't continue it after one week? I notice the movies is 14 days free but you can cancel but you would probably have a month to pay if you watch the trial.

However I assume a one week pass is a one off not like the monthly one? It won't just continue?

One thing I dont like about the NOW TV box. There's no power button... I have to unplug it every night.

I love Now TV boxes.

Just picked up the new black one from Argos with the 3 month Entertainment pass for £14.99. Applied the voucher and now get it on all the old white boxes in the house which includes the daughter bedroom, so she's a happy bunny.

One thing I was worried about is if they'd blocked the Plex hack. For the uninitiated, PLEX is a media server that you run on a NOW TV box that lets you stream content that is on your laptop for example. Load it on your laptop, point it at a film library and as long as it's on your network the NOW TV box will stream it to your TV. It's a good little app that I use a lot.

Anyway, it still works on the black box. Yay !

Plenty of useful info on the web on how to set it up, just search Plex Now TV. It can be a bit fiddly as the app has to be sideloaded into the Now TV box ( Sky aren't going to make it simple !) but it's worth the effort.

[quote=derek500;80613526]I've got two boxes and use them for live TV (BBC, ITV and Sky News) in the kitchen and bedroom as we have no Freeview signaI. We gave the vouchers to friends as we’ve got the full Sky package via satellite.

The catch up services are free.

Set an account up with the first box, which works with the second, but have never paid a penny.

Sky Sports News HQ is pay. You need a movies pass, entertainment pass, or a sports pass used within the past 30 days.[/QUO

I Havnt got now tv but from what i"ve heard Skysportnews HQ is free on entertainment pack via the app you can download, i could be wrong but that"s what i"ve been told

How does everybody use there now do you pay £6.99 or just buy another 3/6 months? I see many on the now forums do this and the site lets you apply a voucher?

I know the feeling, I have to do this too, but it is a good little box and I love using it for the movies since I got a three months movie pass for £25 from Currys. Great value too.

Why is there a need to unplug it every night?
I was/am under the impression that these devices are designed to be left connected to power 24/7

Im confused as to how its cheaper to get sky movies via buying another box than it is to buy on my sky box.

theres no reason a sky go app wouldnt run on a sky movies app, all a bit strange IMO.

Thanks for the links, there are a lot of golden oldies on the movies list, and the choice is pretty wide. Still, its great value.

I have been told that SkySportsNews can be viewed via the app without the sports pack if yes is it live or highlights etc, if someone can shed some light on this i would be grateful, SkySportsNews is the only channel i miss since moving to BT TV

Correct. You need either an active Entertainment or Movies pass to view the Sky Sports News app. It's also about one minute behind the live Sky TV feed so pretty useless for Soccer Saturday and live score shows.

It would be a good idea if they put Sky News (Live) on the Entertainment list (taking the channels to 14 instead of the unlucky 13)...it would then save me coming out of the Now TV Entertainment app then go to the Sky News app to watch Sky News Live. ...or switch to Freesat / Freeview. Would also be a good idea to add Sky Sports News HQ as well as it's 'free' if you have an Entertainment , Movies or Sports pass.

Do people really care if the scores are 1 minute behind? What difference does it make

You can also watch Sky News HD on the YouTube app. It's the international version with interesting filler in the ad breaks.

Yes, the pass comes on a card with a code. Its up to you when you decide to use the code.

I think they go into low power 'sleep' mode when not active so no real need to unplug as long as it isn't actively streaming something.

I do now make sure I press the 'home' button to log out of the account and so nothing is active so it can go to sleep proper and not just the 'waiting for me to return' screen saver thing that appears if pausing something for a while.

This is after I once left it on Sky Sports News HQ for a few days and didn't realise it mattered, until the capped broadband I was on at the time ran out and I got lots of emails overnight saying my allowance had been exceeded and they were automatically extending it at a fiver a GB each time.

I think it ran up £20 or £30 of overuse charges before I could stop it by setting an overuse cap via the plusnet website, and then making sure the box wasn't streaming when my TV wasn't even on.

Now I'm on 'unlimited' fibre I don't worry so much but don't like things hogging the bandwidth if I can help it.

The boxes only use about 3.5w when streaming HD, so when idle it would be using next to nothing. Certainly not worth uplugging from the mains to save power anyway.
