Hi,

Could someone confirm was connections I need on the wallplate for sky+ when using a loftbox.

I am getting the wallplates and cables installed in a new house being built so the loftbox will be installed once I move in at a later date. I need to get the electrician or whoever to install the corrrect stuff so I want to tell them what should be done so I know they are doing it right.

I am getting three cable send down from the loft to the living room, one cable with the tv/sat conbined, the other cable the 2nd sat feed and the third the return feed.

In the wall plate do I need
one uhf - for the tv
2 f connectors/uhf2 (is f connetcor and uhf2 the same things) - for the 2 sat feeds
another f connector/uhf2 for the return feed

Could some confirm this is correct. I have looked on the websites and it a bit confusing as to what should be include in the wall plate.

Also I have read that the wall plate should be non isolated so I can send the remote control signals down the line, but then I have heard about the plates needing to be double shielded as well (I know that the cabling needs to be this)- can they be you get wall plates that are both?

One more thing, the cabling - I have suggest using double shielded/screen CT100/H109. Is this correct?

Thanks

I use a standard co-ax wall plate for the return feed on my system. The RF output from Sky+ uses a standard TV aerial connector.
I have 4 cables running into the lounge - Sky "shotgun" twin cable for the 2 sat feeds, and 2 CT100 for the TV feed and Sky output return.

I use CT100 for all the fixed cabling.

If you are planning on using skylink remote "magic eyes", make sure that the distribution amp you use allows DC passthrough.

Thanks for the info clockworks999. So you use a loftbox type thing in your installation if so which one - as I have not looked into this actual loftbox equipment to get? From what I have read I only need two sending signals down - a tv/sat signal combined and an extra cable for the sat. Is it better to have two cables coming down seperately for sky plus then?

I've got a masthead amplifier, which boosts the signal from the aerial. I only need this because the TV signal is very weak where I live. It's some German make I have never heard of, supplied by the aerial installer.

I've also got a distribution amplifier, which sends the RF output signal from the Sky+ to 4 extra TVs. This is an unbranded box from City Electrical Factors. The main TV connects directly to the Sky+ with a scart cable.

I've just googled on "loftbox". Do you actually need a device like that?
Do you have Sky+ already installed?
Are you having a new aerial fitted?

I suppose that if you are having a complete new system installed, one of these might make sense.
The suppliers sell an expander that allows both of the sky+ sat feeds to connect into the loftbox, so that you only need one cable from the box to the wallplate in your living room. You also need a diplexer to split the signals out again.

The only reason that I can see for using one of these devices is if it would be too difficult to run the sat cables from the dish directly into your living room. Separate cables will be cheaper, and probably work better as well.

Personally, I would forget the loftbox. Get you electrician to run 4 CT100 cables from the loft to your living room. Terminate 2 into a double F wall plate, and the other 2 into a double co-ax wall plate.
Get the aerial installer to connect the aerial to one of the co-ax feeds, and a distribution amp to the other.
The outputs of the distribution amp can then run to co-ax wall plates in bedrooms, kitchen, etc.

Get the sat installer to connect the dish to the 2 F feeds.

If you decide to use a loftbox, you only need 2 cables from the loft to the living room.
