Barry is involved in a serious Car accident that leads to him
Being in a coma for several weeks and suffering from
minor brain damage and severe spinal injuries that lead to paralysis. Therefore he has to adjust to life in a wheelchair.

Barry was excited as he had just passed his driving test and is fully able to drive around now

He just needed to get a car somehow he asked his mum for help in getting a car and was boasting to everyone about passing.

Carol had agreed to allow Barry to share her car just until he was stable enough to afford his own. He would be helping her with the insurance though.

He was supposed to wear glasses only for driving but he claimed they made him look like an idiot so done without. That's why he had a headache because his eyes were straining.

Taking the motorway. Which was really busy at this time.
