They're small, fairly thin buttery pastry, beautiful condensed filling, not too wet.
And, key for me, *not* excessively boozy.

Several packets have gone west already ”

Those are the ones I bought.

The pastry is nice and they have a generous filling, but they have zero classic mince pie spiciness to them.

All you can taste is the fruit itself and hint of brandy.

Anyway, I've changed my mind since the original post and think Icelands are the best.

I need to try Lidls Snowy Lodge pies and Waitrose pies now.

I said this in the other thread that M&S had the best ones as I'm not a fan of mince pies and even I can eat them. So that's a winner right there

Asda standard Mince Pies - pastry is dry and tasteless.

Those are my favourites for this year. Only slight negative is that the pastry is a little too crumbly but other than that they're spot on. A disgraceful amount have been consumed so far- all in the name of science obviously

Anyway - yada, yada, yada......
Lidl's came first.”

For a compressive comparison which will more accurate, you need more than five people i can assure you..otherwise a pointless excercise.

I usually make my own, and I am doing this again this year, but I bought a pack of morrisons yesterday which were quite nice. Paul Hollywoods recipe which I use , make lovely mince pies though 😃😃😜!!

Homemade in this house, although if I'm honest, I prefer Sainsbury taste the difference (don't tell the wife!). The important point is that mince pies need to have booze in them.

Any that are iced-top are fine by me.

We've got the Greggs ones. I think they're £1.50 for 6 and are apparently baked instore. I suspect re-heated instore is probably closer to the truth. Either way they're lovely - crisp pastry, and a nice tangy filling.

Nothing beats Hestons mince pies from Waitrose."
