So I'm in north west England, it's been a miserabole wet and gloomy day, like we've had all this November non-stop. And the street lights and even the main road lights are on and it's 3:30 pm... It's just soooo gloomy.

The light starts to fade these days at 2:00pm and at 2:30 I had to put my kitchen light on today. I can hardly see around the house, it's just like, shadows.

And I'm not even that far north, I'm just north of Manchester.

If it's this dark here what's it the in Scotland, or even as far north as the Shetland Islands?

What's it like for you in the sunny south now?

Yes, same here. Curtains drawn and lamps on now. Nice and cosy.

Street lights came on 3:15 - not yet completely dark - that'll be about 4pm.

I don't think I've ever known a November as dark and gloomy as this one...

I wouldn't necessarily say that just yet but it is very dull and rainy where I am right now.

Perhaps it's just the passing of a particularly dark, dense and heavy cloud mass?

Yes it is it has just gone 4pm and it's already getting dark. I so hate November, the most depressing month of the year, I've always hated it.

This November has been worst, each day has been dull grey and wet

At least next month is the shortest day and it will get lighter after that

I just can't wait until spring time and the light evenings again

Well I've just switched off the living room light, and I would not be able to read by what tiny bit of fading daylight is left outside.

I'm in the not so sunny South.

I suspect like me you can't wait for spring to come? Well only 17 weeks and the clocks go forward! Yippee

It'll be a glacially slow process at first, speeding up by February.

I am losing the will to live, sitting here checking my bets on the football, and I don't know why I keep clicking on shiit like this.

Yes same here, when I got in the shower earlier I had to have the light on when I usually don't. I'm in NW too.

I'm enjoying the dark nights. A reason not to socialise, and a perfect excuse to crank the heating up.

However, have you two seen the ITV2 shedule recently? Not only is this thread far more entertaining but it's also informative too.

Where else would you see monster storm clouds?

Sunset starts getting later before the solstice, I read the other day. The sunrise carries on getting later till the solstice though. Just over 3 weeks and we'll start getting longer days.

We had to put the lights on at about 2.30, but that was because it was really cloudy. It's still not quite properly dark.

True but even January has on average more daylight hours than November. It should be light until 5.15pm by the end of January

I'm in the south and had my lights on at the time the thread was started. Curtain were pulled about half an hour ago. 3 1/2 weeks to go till the shortest day and it feels so dark so early already. Roll on spring. Thank goodness for Christmas to brighten things up. Whoever came up with the idea for a festival in the height of winter knew what they were doing.

When you get to that point in February when you can see some blue in the sky after 6pm that's when things are getting better

You can always tell in early spring Late Jan onwards that when it gets dark its like the dusk is being pushed away by the day and it struggles to get dark. There is some joy in that if that makes any senses lol

By contrast from September onwards the dark and dusk comes down like a cold dark wet blanket snuffing out the daylight.
