6:10pm sunset at Home which is good! Going back next weekend for a month, I can't wait for 7pm sunsets!

I think sunset will be 8pm by the end of the month!

Heavy cloud cover today meant it was darker than usual so the curtains were again drawn before 6pm.

It's getting lovely and light in the late afternoons now - not long until the clocks go back and then it really kicks in. The worst is over for another 8 months.

For early March that seems a really early sunset, considering come the March equinox sunset time is supposed to be well after 6pm.

In the not too distant past sunset at the same day of the year was considerably later.

Yeah that's what i'm saying. I'm from NI so i've never had sunset at 5:30 in March, to me that's something you'd see in early February. It's sickening, you can't do anything because it's dark before your're out of work.

I can understand now why English people have this big push for CET. They do need it but if us on the island of Ireland adopted it I think it would turn into a disaster, it would still be broad daylight at 12am and who wants that! I think for us we don't even need DST lol, it would still be bright to 10 where i'm from.

Maybe the government should look at changing DST dates to early March?

Either way never expected to see days end this early in March.

Is there something special about 2016? I've been on this planet since 1976, and this year is no different to any other.

There isn't a big push in England for CET. There's a few self serving politicians that bring up attempts to get us to move to it every few years, and leave out facts like GMT is our natural timezone. If we were on CET it wouldn't get light in winter till 9:00am in London and god knows what time in Scotland. We'd still have to change our clocks twice a year. If anyone needs to change timezones it's both France and Spain to the same time zone as us.

So you think a 5:30pm sunset in March - a spring month is appropriate?

Lol. I'll have a word with the big guy upstairs and get him to change it.

When was sunset in March last year? 8:30pm?

I am finding a drastic difference in sunset and sunrise times between Londonderry and East Anglia, each time I go home it's almost like i've shifted timezones.

I don't see why East Anglia can't use CET. Sunset before 4pm in the middle of winter is atrocious.

Oh yeah and by the way, I already have 9am sunrises.

Sun coming over the hill at 9:16am dear..

CET isn't our correct timezone. As I said, it's not us that needs to change. It's France and Spain. It would be ludicrous to have two timezones in a landmass the size of ours.

There is a 55 minute time difference between west Ireland and East Anglia so perhaps not.

As I said earlier east anglia is very far east.

I know you're in the north, but the principle is still the same. You imagining it's changed this year. I suggest you've been asleep for most of your of your life if you think this year is any different.

I suggest London and Yourkshire should have a 23 minute difference.

Still no reason for CET.

So you think that 5pm sunsets in March are acceptable?
Ok?

I don't think you realise how awful this region's sunsets are compared to the rest of the British Isles.

I'm from County Londonderry. The sunset is 6:12pm today and yes this time last year I was there so it is a big difference for me.

Well today is the first day where it's actually been daylight when I have come out of class. It's still bright now at 5:45pm.

In America they are putting the clocks forward this weekend - lucky them. We have another 3 weeks of 6pm darkness in much of the UK,

It's madness that for most of March we have daylight at 6am - before most people are up - and darkness at 6pm mid evening rush hour. People are literally dying because of this stupidity.

We could have daylight at 7am and to past 7pm. Most people could travel to work and home in daylight.
