So what? The sun sets at like 10:15pm where I live so that means that the sun is SHINNING at 10:15pm i.e not just twilight like in England. It does not bother us in Northern Ireland so why would it impact people in England?

I used to live near Aberdeen. It was bloody great in summer.
Trouble was that average summers were only about 3 weeks long. |

Our sunset is that late that when I was in NYC last summer the sun was setting like 2/3 hours after us.

You really are nuts. Ever thought they're on a different Longitude and latitude? They're also in Eastern Time.

You have to consider the whole population. CET in England would mean many more people would be getting up and commuting to school/work in darkness in Winter. It would also mean many would have difficulty getting off to sleep in mid-summer. Look at these sunrise and sunset times for Carlisle: http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/uk/ca...th=1&year=2016 If CET was adopted the sun in January would not rise till 9:30am! The sun in Summer would not set until nearly 11pm! I did a Poll a while back asking what time system we should adopt. The majority opted to stick to the status quo. http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2112726 Back in the 90's Portugal tried to adopt CET but it was unpopular they reverted back. More recently Russia tried it too but it proved so unpopular that they decided to keep the time on the Winter setting (equivalent of our GMT) all year round! https://www.rt.com/news/199464-winte...russia-clocks/ Those who choose to live in Northern Ireland have accepted that the sunrises and sunsets are later. But to force 60 million people to get up and commute in the dark in Winter and have the sun streaming through thier window when their trying to get to sleep in the middle of summer?? I'm happy with my sunrise and sunset times throughout the year thanks. Winter Latest Sunrise: 8:30am Earliest Sunset: 3:45pm Summer Earliest Sunrise: 4:30am Latest Sunset: 9:45pm |

You must lack any sort of common sense, for if you did, it would not take you too long to work out that yes 5pm sunsets in March are a tad early.
Sunsets at 50N + in March West to East 1. Moscow - 6:13 pm 2. Novosibirsk - 6:12pm 3. kemerovo - 6:00pm 4. Krasnoyarsk - 6:31pm 5. Unalaska - 7:50pm 6. Edmonton - 6:18pm 7. Winnipeg - 6:16pm 8. Labrador City - 6:14pm So yes Londonderry has a similar sunset time to these locations, average seems to be around 6:10pm for 50N +. They won’t be happy. |

Civil twilight already ends at around 11:20 in County Londonderry in June so I don't see the big deal here. Why would changing for CET for England be so damaging?
And Murcia lies at 2 degrees West so it is in the GMT timezone, sunset in the GMT timezone there would be 7:30pm in June, it is only 9:30pm because they have a timezone which is hours ahead of their natural one. I am right, their sunset is hours before mines. Get your facts right about twilight times. London does not have a longer twilight than County Londonderry, please read this document. You will see that County Londonderry has Nautical twilight all night long in summer - this does not happen in pretty much all of England. So yes daylight does last alot longer there. http://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy...-twilight.html 'Nautical twilight occurs when the geometrical center of the Sun is between 6 degrees and 12 degrees below the horizon. This twilight period is less bright than civil twilight and artificial light is generally required for outdoor activities.' |

If they didn't put the clocks forward in Northern Ireland, I wouldn't care.

![]() ![]() I thought you liked late sunsets. You have contradicted yourself so many times on this thread. You are laughable. Good day.

I said England should go on CET because it has early sunsets throughout the year. We
don't need CET because we are on the very far west of the timezone. Obviously you aren't going to listen to me because you are clearly picking out negatives and trying to degrade me. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I know this is a stretch but you aren't the only person on the planet. I said the English are quite happy with our English weather, English sunsets and English timezones. We don't feel the need to change it.

Throw this question into the mix. Is it really necessary for the UK to go through the ritual of changing the clocks in the 21st century. Shouldnt we have referendum so that the people are given the opportunity to decide seeing as our MPs are inept at deciding on our behalf what timezone we should be in.
If were to keep BST all year the argument would be the kids will be going to school in the dark. But that would depend on weather conditions. Changing the clocks is like canute trying to stop the tide. Edmonton in canada sunrise and sunset are half later than the UK yet they are on the same latitude as us |
