Sunset is now at 6pm where I live.

I think 6pm is a good time for it to get dark. You still have a couple of hours daylight after you get home, then by tea time it's just getting dark, then afterwards it's a nice evening in watching tv and going on DS.

Yes, summer evenings are nice too, but it's also nice and relaxing to spend an evening indoors with lights and heating on. That nice cosy feeling.

Yes, it's great in summer to eat salad and ice cream and play footie in the garden or have a walk in the park at 10pm, but it's also nice to curl up on the sofa without thinking "I should be outside it's still light".

It's always a big difference when the clocks go forward and suddenly I'm eating dinner in the daylight, takes a while to get used to lol.

Is it? I don't think it is. Lately i've only had an hour at most of daylight after class and then it's dark.

I would like it to be bright to 7 at the absolute minimum.

I did suggest Lerwick, a few pages back. He wasn't impressed.

I will be laughing when I get my 40 minutes of extra sunlight on Saturday.

2 minutes less you mean.

But on a serious note, if the sunset thing is so important, why didn't you factor that in?
You can't change the sunrise and sunset, do you will have to adapt and get up earlier if you want to experience more daylight.

OK, fair point.
But if it really is that important, then it's adapt or move.

It will soon go dark in Indonesia even though it is day.

Total eclipse of sun.

I'd like it to stay dark a bit later in the morning in the middle of summer, actually. The damn birds wake up at stupid o'clock and twitter and squawk and keep me awake from about 4 am.

I've tried ear plugs, but they fall out in the night.

It's just relative positions of sun and earth. My geography teacher closed the curtains and shone a torch on his balls. A vivid demonstration that sticks in the memory .......

Doesn't really get properly dark until after 7 at the moment. I live almost as far west as it is possible to be, though.

I'm glad. I don't like hot weather, but I love it when it doesn't get dark until like 11pm

What time is your sunset? It's still before six here.

It's dark about 6:20 now here.

But the thing is it isn't really "extra". In fact, comparing both Londonderry and Lowestoft, Lowestoft actually has 3 minutes extra daylight in total (though Londonderry has longer twilight periods).

You are simply happy because of what two hands on a clock are telling you. You have a fixed schedule that relies on hands on a clock and so if the sun sets when the little hand points to the six and the big hand points to the twelve rather than say the 8 then your not happy.

My advice: If you really want to get more sunlight.... Adjust your schedule. Get up earlier to get the extra daylight, and go to bed earlier to compensate. Find more to do in the mornings rather than the evenings. Even put your bedroom clock forward if you like. It'll be effectively like putting the clocks forward, except that your classes will now be an hour later (on the new time) eg if class lasts from 9-5, then classes will now from 10-6 (on your watch). You'll spend more time awake when it's daylight that way.

Saw some astro twilight again in the sky tonight. I could see the clouds and a faint glow towards the western skies. It's just gone completely dark now but I could still make out the horizon at 7:30pm.

So it's now 8pm before it gets "properly dark" where I live
