Well, it would still have been dark at 3.36am GMT.

The light starts to fade these days at 2:00pm and at 2:30 I had to put my kitchen light on today. I can hardly see around the house, it's just like, shadows.

And I'm not even that far north, I'm just north of Manchester.

If it's this dark here what's it the in Scotland, or even as far north as the Shetland Islands?

What's it like for you in the sunny south now?”

Sounds grim
I'm down south, and at just after 7pm it's actually lovely and sunny.

Yeah, I know. In the evenings, in particular, it's not quite felt like the time it is on the clock. It felt weird that it was still broad daylight at 7pm last night. And that I am now eating my dinner in the daylight. But I guess I will get used to it...

Been fine and sunny weather this afternoon and this evening. Sky is now completely clear, the sun set about 7:30pm (even though it is listed later for this location, I live in a hilly area). It's still quite light now though,, and the streetlights didn't come on till 8:00pm, a far cry from December where on a perfectly clear day the latest they would come on would be 4:00pm.

Really?? It just got comjpletely pitch black at that time today where I am. It started to go dark at 7:30pm. It was however cloudy and rainy though, but even on a clear day it's not stayed bright till that late. Your mornings won't be as light though so it's swings and roundabouts

Yup. I can't beleive it. 20 pages and nearly 500 posts now! It's been a long time since I started this thread back on a gloomy Novemeber afternoon when the streetlights were coming on before 4pm. Now look at it.

Breaking news. Gets darker in winter and lighter in summer shocker. or have you been so attached to your electrical devices growing up you've failed to notice?

I find the changing of the seasons and daylight hours quite interesting. But that's just me.

I don't comment on threads I have no interest in.

Looking out of my window now there is still a wince of light towards the South-Western sky, but the sun dipped behind the horizon at 7:40…

If you download an app called "iSpy", You can view live camera feeds from all over the world. If you press "Search" and select United Kingdom, you can see quite a few places around the UK. Very good for seeing how light/dark it is in different places.

There is still a smudge of daylight in Dundee at the moment.

Woke up early this morning. Just after 5am, dawn broke, and as soon as the first hint of blue hit the sky the first bird started singing and the dawn chorus started. The hour of dawn is now again from 5-6am now, in fact by 5:30am it was pretty light already.

The sky was still a royal blue after 9pm today, so the days are definetely lenghning fast. Not too long till Summer now.

Less than ten weeks now until the nights start drawing in. As someone who prefers the days getting shorter, I am looking forward to it.

Why do people on this forum always look forward to a particular season/longer or shorter days ages in advance??

Esspecially when we've just had the time of year they're looking forward too??

It's like saying "I can't wait for next Christmas, only 299 days to go", in February…

We've just had Winter and dark nights for the last five - six months, the clocks have just gone forward and we've moved into the lighter, warmer part of the year. So those who want shorter cooler days back you've got a long time to wait.

However, each Season has it's own pros and cons. Sure, it's nice and cosy and homely to be inside and warm in December when it's half past 3 and it's raining and going dark.

But it's also nice to walk outside on a nice mid-summers evening when it's 10pm and still warm and light.

It can take a while to get warm in bed in Winter whilst shivering under the duvet, but in Summer you're wishing it's Winter when you're tossing and turning on a hot and humid night.

it's still a bit chilly up north but we have had a few warmer sunny days lately, so it'll be nice to ditch that Winter coat that I've been wearing since October.

A fantastic post, I agree with it all. It may only be 10 weeks until the longest day and the days start to draw in, but it's not until October that it gets dark anytime before 6pm, a long long way off yet.

It was bright to 8:20 here last night but I was on Skype with my sister the other night and it was still broad daylight in Northern Ireland at 9pm.

I was surprised at the difference. I think it was dark here before the sun set there.

This photo was taken at around 8:35pm last night looking north west.

Lovely sky. The ground was actually brighter than it looks in the photo, the camera had to dim the exposure so that the sky wasn't too bright.

And the sun is setting at 8:15pm and now rising at 6:00am again here, so later times than in East Anglia but not as late as Northern Ireland.
