The days definetely are lengthening fast. Woke up at 4:45am this morning and the sky was a royal blue, and by 5:15am it was getting quite light. Even in late March first light wasn't until about 5:00am. And it stayed light quite light last night too. Took quite a while to get dark. It may have helped that the moon was out though, making it lighter than what it would've been had it not been out. Even when it's officailly "night" the sky never seems to go completely pitch black, there is sort of a deep blue tinge in the sky and you can even just make out the horizon. A bit like in midsummer when at night the sky never seems to get fully dark.
And for my area Civil Twilight is now 40 minutes and Nautical Twilight 50 minutes, so it now takes an hour and a half after sunset on a clear night to get fully dark. |

It still gets dark here at 8:30 which is reasonably early for the time of year.

This photo was taken at around 8:35pm last night looking north west.
http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...203658_083.jpg Lovely sky. The ground was actually brighter than it looks in the photo, the camera had to dim the exposure so that the sky wasn't too bright. And the sun is setting at 8:15pm and now rising at 6:00am again here, so later times than in East Anglia but not as late as Northern Ireland. |

In the winter and autumn it gets dark at a little over 5. Spring and summer it gets dark at around 8:30. It gets lighter in the winter/autumn at 8 am and at 5:30 am in the spring/summer.
I live in New England and we can get a lot of snow. |

In December however despite being further South sunset is still as early as 4:00pm. But at least the mornings are a lot lighter - latest sunrise is 7:15am. http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/a...h=12&year=2016 |

In the summer, sunset in Maine is barely 8pm which imo is pathetic.

To be fair I do miss having darkness in summer. It can get annoying having constant twilight at night..

Really? Never thought you would say that. In June here it doesn't quite get to the stage of nautical twilight all night but it isn't far off, we have no more than a couple of hours of astro twilight and the sun sinks no deeper than 13 degrees below the horizon.

Going South, Carlisle has a part of June which never gets darker than nautical twilight. Further South still to most of Northern England and the Midlands Southwards, it almost, but not quite, reaches the nautical twilight stage, but does reach the astronomical twilight stage. This thread has gone on longer than the 'I need a square monitor' thread posted by the OP. He needs to go on holiday again I feel.
