It doesn't surprise me that Ulster's lighter right now cos it's further north. Also, take a look at what it's like in Tromsų (69*N): http://www.amihotel.no/ami/english/w...el_tromso.html (note the snow!)

Still not quite completely dark yet, there is still a blue tinge in the sky. That is looking towards the South as well, it'll be lighter towards the north and west.

Yes.. It's even brighter in June.

12am in June.

But that's not that big a deal. In places like Wick it's pretty much bright all night. I think maybe 100 miles north of me and that would start happening.

Check out these videos of Anchorage and Fairbanks in Alaska. It never goes dark at all. The sun sets for about half an hour then comes back up lol.

But does the sun actaully disappear behind the horizon at that time or does it set a bit earlier than that?

The sunset here always appears to be 15-20 mins before the official time because of the hills, but it stays light for quite a while after that and civil dusk, nautical dusk etc happen at the correct times on a clear night not any earlier.

I've had to install some black out blinds due the the sun shining into the bedroom at ridiculous O'clock in the morning.

Roll on the Autumn.

I have had some thicker curtains installed so that isnt really a problem. Birdsong isnt really an issue either. My bedroom is north-west facing anyway so the sun never shines into my room in the morning anyway. Only problem is it can be 10am and the sun is cracking the flags and im non the wiser and still sleepy cos its still dark in there! Its great in the evenings at this time of year though, I get to see beautiful sunsets from my bedroom. It sucked when I was little as I had to go to bed when the sun was still blazing through the window!

Yes, although I do have hills here there are gaps in between them and they are very far to my north west so they don't have that much of an impact.

Our days are very long at this point, I think my sunset is about 10pm today. When it's sunny like today it feels like the day is never going to end.

I don't think i'd be happy if my days were any longer say 11pm sunset, that would be too much..

It's dusk now and I've just seen (and heard) a flock of geese flying in a V shape. They were coming in from the South flying towards the North. Beautiful.

It doesn't get completely dark at anywhere North of 48.5 degrees lattitude around the June solstice, so all of the UK and other northern European countries have twilight all night.

Well unless it's civil twilight it still gets pretty dark. Even at my latitude in the deep of the night it's still very dark.

You couldn't go out walking anyway.

Of course and I'm not disrupting that, however the fact remains that it doesn't get completely dark above 48.5 degrees latitude around the summer solstice.

You could go walking, but you need streetlights of course. It's much more noticeable in Scotland, obviously. But all the major northern European cities- London, Brussels, Paris, Dublin Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm etc. experience no real darkness this time of year to varying degrees depending on latitude.
