They are directly south of London so sunset in Paris is before London.

Technically yes but as they are an hour ahead of us so it Is actually later. Being further South though once it starts going dark in France it will go dark quicker than in the UK as it is further South.

Yes, but neither France nor the UK is on GMT (or UTC).
Time is relative. If you work from 9-5 and wake at 7am, go to sleep at 11pm, on your timezone, you will experience more sunlight in Paris than in London. Fact. |

This miserable rainy weather we're having at the moment is certainely making it seem a lot darker at night than it should be at this time of year. It's not staying light much beyond 10pm..

It is not called night in my neck of the woods. According to timeanddate, com it dont get darker than astronomical twilight. And heres me thinking that it was night. But nope. Its astronomical twillight til around july 27
If you are going to ibiza then it is proper night, But blackpool or scarborough then it is astro twillight or nautical or civil if you go to scotland. |

I have nautical twilight all night and honestly it's dark unless it's clear skies.

At the moment here the sun is dipping no lower than 13 degrees below the horizon which is just in the astro twilight range (12 degrees is the borderline between nautical and astro twlight) but we've not had many clear nights lately so by 10:30pm it's very dark (dark blue sky), it's completely pitch black by about 11:30. |

10:20pm now and it's gone pretty dark again. I don't know about you but this year the days definitely don't seem as long as this time last year.
It's getting dark at 10pm and it's pitch dark by 11pm. Doesn't help that the evenings have been so cloudy and rainy lately, I haven't seen a sunset for weeks... I remember last summer I was lying in bed at 11:30pm and there was still a bright glow in the north west. Not like that this year ![]() Last year it was twilight till midnight and even then I remember there was a very deep blue tinge in the sky. Beautiful. Not like that this year ![]() I remember last year even in May marvelling at how the twilight was still in the sky so late, but frankly this year, I'm disappointed. Worse thing is it will be the solstice in a weeks time and then we will be on the long descent back to December. It will soon all be over ![]() It's felt quite wintery today as well. Certainly not June Weather. Most people wearing jackets/coats. Might as well call it a day for summer and put the clocks back, jam the heating up, shut the curtains and put the lights on. |

It's been peeing it down here all day and I've had to have my light on for the past hour, a whole 2 hours before sunset time (9:45pm). It's getting really gloomy now, streetlights will be coming on soon I expect.

Longest day tomorrow, then after that we are on our way back to Winter.
Not that the weather is Summery currently though, it's been grey and rainy pretty much all day. It's getting quite dark now, streetlights been on since 9:45pm. Looking at the sky right now it could be 10pm on the longest day or 4pm on the shortest day if you didn't know the time of year, though the weather is definitely more like the latter. |

The nights do not start drawing in for another week
I am more in tune with the winter solstice myself. I guess I'm just a bit too keen to see the darker evenings return.
