All this thick cloud we've had lately has ruined what is normally seemingly like virtual daylight up until well after 11pm at this time of year.

Leading up to sunrise. Night ends then we go through astronomical, nautical and civil dawn to get to sunrise.

Last night jersey had what is classed by astonomers as proper night for about 21 minutes”

The sky actually looks fully dark by the start of astro twilight anyway on most nights, unless it's a very clear sky. At this time of year though on the middle of a clear night the sky has a slight deep blue tinge to it rather than being completely pitch black.

Have to agree. Awful summer.

Only a few more days of 10pm sunsets. They may as well not of happened because I missed the majority of them.

The midnight light sky to the north is fading now, the darkness is closing in slowly. Nice to see some very grey looking high clouds in the distance with it last night, a bit like a negative film

They were forecasting the weather to be warm and sunny by the end of the week but then they later changed it. Friday was overcast, fine in the morning but rainy by lunchtime and into the afternoon. Today has been fine, no rain with temps around 16-18C, not too warm not too cold.

We are set to get a mini-heatwave next week for a day or two and on Tuesday temperatures in London could shoot up to 31C

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2643743?day=3

However after tuesday the weather will go back to the usual, at least in the North, whereas London will remain very warm.

Weather Forecast for me for the next five days:

Sunday
Partly Cloudy
Hi 17 Lo 13

Monday

Hi 22 Lo 14

Tuesday

Hi 28 Lo 18

Wednesday

Hi 23 Lo 13

Thursday
Partly Cloudy
Hi 19 Lo 12

Just getting dark here in Lancashire now.

I like the light evenings, I've got used to them now, and it is gonna suck when I start noticing the nights drawing in again (I've not noticed it yet).

Well soon we'll be spending most of our evenings sat inside, curtains drawn, lights on. Not laying in bed watching the sunset.

I've lost about 40 minutes in my nights already. It's not getting bright at 4am either.

As you're further North than me you'll lose daylight each day at a faster rate than us. Still, you're sunset is now just a little earlier than 10:00pm before it was 10:10pm so hardly 40 minutes of evening daylight lost. Your sunrise is now 5:15am whereas ours has just reached 5:00am.

My sunset today is 9:56pm but the actual time it gets dark is alot earlier. I'm happy with the 5:15am sunrise, I think our sunrises are too early.

Sunrise 0502
Sunset 2118

Today was 2 mins 27 secs shorter than yesterday

daylength difference is beginning to be noticeable now. But when it gets dark comes down to weather conditions. It will seem lighter tonight because it is clear. Where as if its cloudy then it will be darker earlier.

Love the nights drawing in

if you dont like the sunrise still being early then you could always campaign for CET. Then you would get the later sunrise

No, that would be impractical for my geographic location. Honestly I prefer GMT year round because I hate clock changing.

Based on your location shouldnt the sunset be earlier than what you are stating.

Seeing as sunset is SE to NW in the summer you are geographically east of leicester so your sunset should be around 2110

I live in County Londonderry in the summer period.

Don't know about those of you living further North but in England today we've had a scorcher, with temps hitting 33C in London and 29C here in Northern England. It's got up to and still is 25C in the living room now. Not good for sleeping at all I've had the curtains closed in the bedroom this evening to stop the sun shining through and heat the room up even more. I was actually glad to see the sun disappear behind the horizon tonight.

Yes it is getting darker around here because they're replacing the street lights with those shite LED ones.

Very dark here right now, like the middle of winter. It was only a few weeks ago when it was almost daylight at this hour.

But then your sunrise would be at 4.15am instead of at 5.15am.

Yes they're doing that in my area too. For a few years now they've gradually been replacing the old yellow type street lights with the new bluey/white type. At first they replaced the ones in the posher areas (a lot of the more rundown areas still have the the older style of lights), but now more and more streets have the new lights and in the past few months they've been replacing some of the main road ones as well.

I prefer the yellow lights myself, and yellow is my favourite colour (which may have something to do with it). The new style of light seems bright and gets in your eyes when you look into it. Perhaps the newer style of light is cheaper that's probably why the Councils are doing it.

And Sunset at 9:10pm in June instead of 10:10pm.

I'm now starting to notice the nights drawing in, it's getting really dark after 10 now. Also in the mornings it's not starting to get light till after 4 now, earlier in the month it was starting to get light just after 3.
