Mass is energy, and vice versa. The entire plot hinges around a machine designed to turn energy into matter. For any of the castle to work, there must be a power source capable of providing power for over 2 billion years. Of course, the Doctor doesn't harness it until it's too late and he has to improvise, but there's definitely enough power to create food and drink, or similarly destroy matter created, if you catch my drift.
