My plasma TV was the first product I have had from Phillips for many years since I had a cassette deck produced by them that was okish, but not great. the first one was DOA, but this one have been fine and the only niggle is the menu and guide.

“Having said that, I'm also with the OP on Sony, not through the same experience, but generally underwhelmed with their TVs which tended to be both expensive and average. And I never got on with the Trinitron CRT picture. I have had various bits of Sony kit over the years, the reliability has been OK, performance and usability less so”
.
A mate of mine had a Sony hi-fi system and for the price it should have been great sound, but the sound quality was more or less in line with my Pani, which cost a couple of hundred quid less. Sure the Sony had more power, but that does not make quality.
I did not like the trinitron picture either.

“If the OP is concerned about the lower end Panasonic's being Vestel then my suggestion would be go for Samsung or LG instead. I know there have been comments about Samsung reliability but that seems to be in the past (unless anyone's got more up-to-date experiences) and people I know who have Samsung sets seem pretty happy with them. ”
My next door neighbour have a Samsung, it okish, but suffer from wishy washy picture, but that could be the way it is set up, the worse part is the sound, it is so weak, no umph to it at all, reminds me of my old steepletone transistor radio I used to have as a child.

Oddly enough the one Vestel set I've owned (a Bush 15" LCD / DVD) which is in the bedroom is over 10 years old, was bought as a refurb and has behaved faultlessly! Yes, the picture's a bit 'soft' and the sound poor, but it cost less than £ 100, so really it owes me nothing now.”
My brother have a Bush Tv and to be honest for the price it is good, only a 27 inch thing or around that size. I can't remember when he had it now, I think it is about 3 years old.
I did not think looking at TV sets can be so frustrating and I am not even buying one yet.
the lack of HDMI slots is a bit of a pain on mine, I had to get a HDMI switch, which works ok, but more cables.
My mate who have a that Toshiba TV that I was on about at the start of the thread is starting to have a few problems where the TV do not change channels, It is not even 3 months old yet. Make me wonder with all this technology in Tv sets that there is just too much to go wrong.
Myself if I could I would be happy to go back to a simple CRT set at least they was reliable and did what you want them to do.
What are LG sets like these days?
