I immediately sat up when Daphne Oram came on screen when I first watched it, just as Delia Derbyshire, she was very pioneering for her day. From the same film there is also a sound effect played over the RADAR and radio-telescope section that was also used in an episode of Doctor Who, I did know what and in which story it was used but for the life of me my mind has gone blank. I have a Daphne Oram CD in my collection that was released on the Trunk Records label,.. not sure if it's still available?

I have all the Britain On Film series on DVD, it's a magnificent collection of shorts that capture quite an idyllic way of life and community that has sadly long gone.
I recorded them all when BBC Four showed them all a few years ago. The shorts themselves were originally shown in cinemas as part of the entertainment that led up to the main feature film you paid to see. Now all we get are a dozen adverts trying to sell you stuff and a few film trailers.
I can remember a time when cinemas would sometimes show a whole film before the actual one you went to go watch and they weren't even advertised as a double-bill. For example, I went to watch the film version of Porridge, nothing else was billed, no info on the pegboards, yet my brother and I were presented with the film version of George & Mildred before it. Same situations with the comedy Airplane, we had Big Bus before it, with the sci-fi Saturn 3 we had the unexpected treat of Capricorn One. For a couple of 10 year olds pre-VHS days, it was magic!
It's a whole different world now. Get 'em in and get 'em out again.
