"Smart" isn't a proscribed uniform though is it? It's a nebulous catch-all that enables women to pretty much wear anything they want whereas men know they need a suit to function in most office environments. No such strict dress-code applies to women so the two are not equal.

Look at The Daily Politics on BBC2 now - Three women dressed entirely differently while the two blokes are in suits and ties.
But were they TOLD they had to dress that way? Many blokes on tv do not wear ties anymore, and some dress in women even when appearing on the political stage - Eddy Izzard, for example?

Isn't it more than a little racist to consider the voting behaviour of a number of people based solely upon their skin colour?
If you read the post I was replying to you'd see that the point of me posting that was to agree with the post and provide some stats to make the point that people didn't vote en masse in a certain way just because of their skin colour.

There's an expectation in the (average/typical) workplace that men will wear a suit and tie. In this instance Neil wears a tie when he fronts The Daily Politics and Sunday Politics but not when he does This Week on Thursday night. I daresay if he wanted to go tieless on TDP/SP then the producer would step in and tell him it wasn't appropriate as clearly, he doesn't do it.

Grayson Perry and Eddie Izzard don't equate to a broader sense of men cross-dressing in the workplace.

Her chat with Matlock was excrutiating. Wrighty has his faults but he knows his music and that badly needed his input.

Smith not even giving us the courtesy of an excuse for The Sick Man of Europe's absence. Rude if you ask me.

I thought wrighty mentioned it yesterday that he was going on holiday but so quickly you'd miss it if you were not paying attention.

Smith is wittering and interrupting away.

I would prefer some dick please

He did? Another holiday??!?!

You'd think a talk-show host would be keen to stick around in these turbulent times. Lots to discuss.

She hasn't made a wholly decent album yet. I should know - I've bought all but one of them!

Such a slow start from Pen today I accidentally/ providentially went onto the 5 + 24 channel and I'm now watching the king of daytime Mattie. Much better show even if I did catch some of it yesterday. Hmmm the thought of Storms legs on later

Nadine Dorries has her knockers but I'm sure she can handle them.

I shall just watch the end for Kev tomorrow, can't put up with Spence and the witterer on the same show.

I hope this is not Matthew's 'gone fishing fortnight' unless it's Richard next week of course.

For instance, I wear very little makeup, and if I went to a job interview and was told I would be hired on condition that I wore a tight skirt, high heels and thick slap, then I would seriously tell them exactly where to go. Because this is not how I would normally dress. I would accept the job being able to wear (smart) clothes of my choosing. IF a uniform, then smart trousers would be required, or a skirt that I choose and would consider suitable for me.
I read a case of a woman taking an employer to a tribunal after that happened, and she won, so you could remind them of that.

I'm really not keen on Penny Smith.
She is clearly a woman of some intelligence, but always chooses to act thick.
She was an utter embarassment on Pointless Celebrities, I recall.

Does she think acting silly and giggly is endearing?
