Shoulda linked up with Wozzer - They could've thrown a cheese and wine party and it wouldn't have cost them a penny!

Keep the wine away from Judy you never know what might come off when Dick gets some wine in her.

So THAT'S why Grimbo's not there any more! It's not her but I wonder who?

Except when they holiday separately, weeks at a time.

Wozzer not taking his clothes off at woodstock, probably hiding all the cheese packets. Peace man. Hes sporting the lumberjack look today.

No "free sex" for Wozzer at Woodstock but he made up for it years later with "free cheese" from Waitrose. Not quite the same thing....

oooh we need to run a book on this. Who is missing? Woman who always sports jaunty beret/cap? Very made up older woman with blonde hair? Unconvincing transvestite or indeed The Grimbo herself? I think we should be told

I love hearing greedy xenophobic Brexit pensioners moaning about how hard-up they are in their paid-for homes worth hundreds of thousands, or millions even, that they paid buttons for decades ago. They'd happily see the coming generation in permanent poverty as long as it meant they could have another £20 a week to spend on Fondant Fancies and horrible cardigans.

Logan's Run had the right idea, just the wrong age-point!

How can you "save" £10k over six years shopping at Asda? The figures don't add up there.

Without working it out exactly, I reckon he'd need to have vouchers worth in the region of £34-£38 a week, to save 10grand in 6 years. I'd love to know which Asda he shops at that gives away that number of vouchers - my local Asda doesn't give away any.

I'm thinking that he'd need to be spending some money to save some money so for him to say he "saved" £10k in six years would mean he'd be buying loads in order to generate that kind of figure as a saving. I sense some sizeable exaggeration.

We'll have to look to see which of the regulars is now missing, I'm intrigued to know who it is.

It won't be Grimbo, she moved away with her husband last year.

I've not seen Grimbo for some time so either she's the stalker, or she's dead. She was always there every single day without fail. The others you mention still put in an appearance most weeks.

I noticed another poster says she had a husband but i bet she had a poster of Wrighty on the bedroom wall!

Few pensioners live the lifestyle of extreme wealth you seem to imagine. Most are on the basic state pension of £452 per month. If they've managed to hold down a job their entire lives, then their works pension might boost that to around £1000 - 1500 a month. If they have their own property, yes it might be worth a few grand but rather than an asset it's a financial liability due to ongoing maintenance costs they won't be able to afford. If living alone and ill health puts you in a residential home then your house will be used to pay your fees.

On the bright side, you have all this coming your way one day and it will come back to bite you.

I never said they did. That was you.

Do they all live in castles or something? Moat-cleaning costs dragging them down or are you talking about sporadic general running costs we all have to bear? If they can't afford to live in an empty house that's now worth hundreds of thousands due to an increase in value then sell it and downsize, freeing up some cash they can then plough into Werthers Originals shares or coats for their tiny dogs.

And why shouldn't it?

Ooh...Karma Chameleon is it? Nah, I'll never be a xenophobic pensioner thinking the world owes me a living just because I'm old.

.[/QUOTE]

That isn't as easy as you might think. My older family members have been trying to downsize from their 3 bedroom semi to a 2 bedroom property for the past 4 years. To start with there are very few 2 bd props around so prices remain at a premium, and by the time they have forked out the nigh on £20,000 it costs to move (solicitors, surveys, estate agents, removal vans, etc) they would need to take on a mortgage which is impossible for couple in their 70s.

Yes, houses bought years ago are worth thousands & thousands more than the original sale price, but unless people managed to buy outright using cash, then the original price is not what they will have paid in real terms. At one time interest rates were up to 17% - unlike todays almost nothing - and multiply that by the average 25 years, and you'll find their houses were not that cheap after all.

BTW Werners are YUK, and who can afford to keep a dog, tiny or otherwise!!!

You seem to have forgotten that when they paid what you call buttons their salary was not what it is today so they were in the same situation with cashflow but much higher interest rates.

Very few pensioners are living a life of luxury as you feel they are and I have feeling when you hit say 65 you would be ok with being murdered by the state to free up a house and money for someone younger when you have worked all your life for yours.

Or maybe you will show how things should work and lead by example ?
