I thought everyone knew that. It was as popular as the Phil Collins divorce by fax story. The famous headline in one of the tabloids was - predictably enough - The Lady in Bed.

My mum and dad had the pre-Lady in Red "Best Moves" compilation album of Chris de Burgh. Which was not bad. He deserves to be remembered for more than The Lady in Red, but then he has milked it something chronic, so maybe he's got what's coming to him. I could have done without hearing yet another rendition of it on the show, not to mention Matthew's unbelievable pretence that he suddenly liked it.

Still trying to live up to his man of the people image. He can head a few yards down regents park road road to Lemonia who do a nice lunch time 3 course menu for 13.50. If hes been a cheapskate he can have the 11.50 menu. Nice food matthew and i can highly recommend it comrade.

Denegration of fatherhood?

I can't see how this app is any different than flicking through profiles in a clinic.
This really isn't about fatherhood.

Thank you, Andrew, for bringing a bit of common sense to the discussion.

Ooh that was a bit awkward. MW joking that he wasn't on sperm app so no point searching for him. Considering his two wives have both tried IVF unsuccessfully it does maybe point to Mattys man juice not being up to par.

I really don't understand Matthew's argument here.
A sperm donor doesn't intend to be a father to the children that result from his sperm donation.
He should be arguing that sperm donation itself denegrates fatherhood then, not putting the selection of sperm onto the convenience of an app.

Second caller missing the point entirely. Having a child with a decent man and denying him access to the child is not the same as selecting sperm donated by a man who had no expectation of involvement in any resulting child's life.

Quite an aggressive stance with the phone-ins.
Does sperm donor app denegrate fatherhood? Bah humbug no more Christmas dinner? Is volunteering for mugs?
I know he wants to promote discussion, but does he always have to do it by framing his debates in an adversarial manner? Particulatly when some of the subjects are pointless.

Exactly the point, and one that should have been raised. There seems to be a massive increase in men in their 30's and 40's who aren't ready to have children. If anyone has 'denigrated' fatherhood' its these men who have made themselves biologically redundant. Many women have a biological urge to have children, and can't hang around waiting for the right man to come along and then wait for him to decide he wants children. I bet most of the women who use the app are highly educated and able to support a child financially and emotionally. If they haven't met the right man, who is to say that they shouldn't have a child that is loved and cherished by them and their extended family? You can have a relationship any time. You can't have a child any time.

Loved Christine's well-placed "bollocks!"

Shame they made her apologise over and over. FFS! Why have to repeat the apology at the end of the papers?

I'm one of them. I have no desire to spawn offspring.

That was classic Christine!! I might not share her politics but certainly share many of her views/opinions and like her as a guest. She seems a real fun person to be around.

I agree, continually apologising just enhances what happened rather than letting it slip quietly away. I'd forgotten about it until five minutes later old harpy Wright bangs off again.

BIB - She didn't show them before the watershed, did she?

Even moreso, those who appear to father children indiscriminately, then disappear when it comes time to actually parent.
I am not arguing that every mother is perfect, of course not, but the topic was about fatherhood so I'm discussing fathers.
Matthew did briefly mention fathers who don't live up to their parental responsibilities, but only to counter the caller who had missed the point of the call.

If you are ok in principle with sperm donation I cannot see what the problem is with putting selection on an app.

I would expect you're entirely right about the type of woman who is using the app.
Children do not necessarily need two involved parents if two aren't willing and able to ve involved.
I would support the rights of any parent who was being denied access to their child, but I know many people who have raised children on their own for various reasons and have done wonderfully.

And you are absolutely within your rights to decide that. Parenting is hard work. What I object to is that women are always blamed for 'leaving it too late to have children', or being 'too obsessed with their careers' or as was the case here 'denigrating fatherhood' , yet nobody points out that it takes two to tango and if one party doesn't want to tango, you have to look elsewhere.

If Corbyn farts Wrighty does half an hour on it but apparently Trump V Clinton doesn't warrant a mention except, presumably, in passing in the paper review.
