Is it now the habit in the Paper's Review for right-on contributors to intone solemnly when quoting from " the paper that cannot be mentioned " or " that newspaper " instead of just saying The Daily Mail FFS ?

It's all getting rather childish now.
Especially when said panelist is profiting from a story in said paper that cannot be mentioned.

It would be interesting to see the mood of the day if the Guardian ever closes and go the way of the independent, and its looking like it could happen. I am sure black armbands would be worn with lots of sad faces and its all the fault of right wing media.

Depends on the panellist. Some Scousers not keen on reading from The Sun for instance.

Furst used to lampoon "The Mood of The Mail" when he was on but seems to regard that as giving material away free of charge now so's dropped it.
I thought he dropped it because it was unfunny and cringe worthy. Even the sycophantic studio audience weren't laughing.
Yep, it was definitely past its prime.

It was funny more often than not. DVDFever, of this parish, used to compile them on Youtube but Princess Prod. made him pull them down. It's my impression that Furst started to feel like he was giving stuff away which is why it got blocked on YT and eventually dropped on TWS as I guess some small prep was required.
Not quite. They told me to stop uploading stuff (or I could see they'd start throwing more copyright strikes at it to close the channel as they'd done two at that point). They claimed they were doing their own channel which Eric had set up and then abandoned before they abandoned him.

So nothing is being uploaded anywhere, without the potential problem of it being taken down. Occasionally C5's automated system slaps UK-only claims on videos so that no-one in the UK can see them without using a proxy site, but I'm not going to waste time challenging them and risking the channel going down for that. In the meantime, here's Furst's Moods...

No I didn't see it. I missed it, what happened with Iain Lee?
Impartiality, bigotry and Christianity all coming together.....

Just caught the guest stating race horses are treated better than any other domesticated animal.
Utter rubbish. A horse wants to be with the herd and graze all day. As it is they're confined all day in a stable and given weighed measures of food twice a day. They are so bored that their mental state drives them to bite the stable door known as cribbing. Hence the metal strip applied to the door to prevent it.

I think the horses would disagree with her.
Totally agree. People keep perpetuating this myth about race horses they are only there to make money like greyhounds.

So, add near blindness to the list of ailments The Sick Man of Europe suffers from.

I'll give him this, we're currently in the longest sustained period of Wright-helmed shows without a break. There.....I've probably jinxed him now.

So, five minutes of the extra ten today (all it takes to make it a "special edition" apparently) is an extra ad-break shoehorned into the middle of the papers which normally run straight through without a break.

Only on Five could more ads be considered a special ingredient! Pathetic....

I was always surprised the Paper Review section of the show was ad -free, almost 30 minutes WITHOUT ads, surely a Channel 5 record of sorts.

Today's show finishes at 11.18. So much for extended/longer.

Tiff Stevenson, Katie "Wright-On" Brand and Dr David "How long till I mention LA?" Bull next week.

They only had one topic between 10.30 and 11 this time (although it started about 10.35-40). Hence, no extra ad breaks as they shoved it mid-papers? I think that worked out better so they could have a longer topic at that time rather than attempting to deal with an important one and then shoving a pointless 5-minute one in.

At least they didn't extend it until 11.45 and then pointlessly bring a new guest on at 11am.

I thought today worked well, extra time for Kev, and no second guest to drone on.

I can not stand Kevin. His so rude and miserable. Gregg serves an obvious role on Masterchef, to represent the average Joe. The people that drive the food industry. I far prefer him to John who seems to take no enjoyment out of show at all. And what exactly does he think qualifies him to awkwardly occupy a chair on The Write Stuff, as he babbles on and on? That isn't rocket science either. At least Gregg manages to appear relaxed and competent.

2 million sales, 13 books over 20 years = @153k sales per book. Does that qualify as successful then? I guess it must...

I know they want the alliteration for the topic title, but if someone else takes a photo of you it's just a photo, not a selfie.

Its not a selfie matthew. its a photograph. Stop trying to push an agenda. Even the panelist has mentioned it yet you choose to ignore.

Oh look, one of Tiff's followers told her it wasn't a selfie and she's pretending she just thought of it.

Matthew losing his cool and using The Sun in evidence against a caller who correctly point out the photo was not a selfie.

If the photo was a genuine selfie the detail Matthew's pointing out in the picture might very likely not have been seen anyway.

Matthew its the EU not Europe. There is a difference. Just make it a bit clearer. For somebody who doesn't know what way to go on the subject you seem very much in the remain camp.

Its all balls now, wheres Dickie when you need him.

Teaching assistant topic seems pointless.
I think most people expect conduct clauses in contract.
Even if those clauses are couched in vague terms, modelling lingerie on the side is probably not something a school would want their teaching assistants to do.

Is the female panellist a comedian? She's very shouty and likes to talk over other people, which I suppose means she fits in well on this show. She seems a bit like Shazia Mirza - lots of opinions without any real knowledge to back them up.

Matthew loves to make the point about page 3 just being carried around the streets on the wind.
Children can scarcely venture outside without seeing that page out of that rag tumbling across their path in Matthew World.
In all my travels I've never seen a paper blowing about the streets.

The way Matthew is talking about the area around whiteleys shopping centre in bayswater sounds like it must be the local refuse tip for the sun newspaper. The locals ain't going to be happy.

He's quite adept at positing a strawman argument, changing the goalposts halfway through or asking another question entirely and then berating a caller for not giving him the answer he wants.

His producer on this is just useless. Someone needs to tell him that being snide, insulting and rude to callers is not professional. Vet them better and only put through ones with cogent, relevant points or is the whole aim to offer up ones that he can then freely insult?

Now he's arguing with Storm!

Particularly belligerent and unreasonable today. Which is saying something.
