So where is this deep dark dank hole then.

Sorry thought someone said Mathew Wright had been put in his place.

BTW this is worthy of a new thread, comes to something when the greater part of posts on a thread are about the fact of whether there should be a thread, if an old thread should be used or who thinks what either way. And yes some threads are way too long these days.

In this instance, seems entirely reasonable to me.

And yes, I caught the last 10 minutes or so and heard the caller / saw MW's face. I laughed. Really laughed. They need more callers like her.

He really is a lightweight... I'm sure his presentation skills have deteriorated - or he's just bored with the work. OH had a hip replaced a couple of years ago and we watched a horrifying amount of daytime telly for a couple of months and TWS was morning viewing. I don't remember him being quite as argumentative or ill-prepared then... and I'm sure the quality of the guests was better too. Some of the current ones can scarcely read the newspaper headlines about which they're supposed to be commenting.

There is a new thread caused by the last caller today.

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...php?p=82038196

It made me think a couple of things. One is that he seemed to be saying it was OK for him to stereotype a group because he is part of that group. The second is following that logic, and using one of his favourite phrases, "what if he were black"? Would it be fine for a black presenter to stereotype black people (in a negative way) with a supposedly amusing caricatured voice? Hmm...

ETA: I wonder if the caller had said the same thing (in perhaps just as passionate a way) to the producer or whoever was screening the call. If they were, maybe the folk backstage wanted MW put in his place. Could this be a sign of how the people working on the show feel about him?

Wright is a modern-day Citizen Smith.

Definitely need more callers like her. Would be interesting to see him have a discussion on 'is it okay to negatively stereotype your own race?'

They merged the threads surprisingly quickly! I liked that it was separate. It also means the link I put now makes no sense.

Just watched today's show and after the caller at the end telling him like it is I had to come on here to see what FMs thought. He was momentarily gob smacked but soon went on the defence - of course MW can't be wrong - and chose to completely miss the point by extolling his Croydon heritage. Blimey if a caller had tried putting forward a weak argument like that he'd have been on them. And then all the deliberate mockney chat afterwards, just as well the caller wasn't on earlier or he'd have been at it, smarting, for the rest of the show.

Socrates would be so proud of your analysis on the workings on a thread

Stacey is making far more sense than Matthew.

Matthew seems to have no ability to conduct a phone-in.
They really need to address this.”

Given that his is one of the production companies involved, do you think he'll sack himself?

The topic was about stereotypes. The caller said to him 'well you stereotype about white working class British people. When ever you say people are racist you put on a British working class accent'.
You could see he was actually stumped as to what to say as he does do it all the time. He soon cut that caller off.”

That was priceless. Hope we get more of those.

Shame it was the last caller as towards the end, he talked over her, then used the ensuing confusion to belittle her before cutting her off

His face was a picture when that last caller was telling him off. You could see inside he was raging and then he went into dickus maximus mode by being an arrogant dick and cutting her off. Expect more of the same today.

Its the wright way or the highway in Matthews little head. He should do the decent thing and quit and work for Corbyns mob, its what he wants but then he may not be able to afford his pad in primrose hill. Gotta love the comrades.

No, of course not, but sacking isn't the only solution.

Jeez, this Neighbours guy is a doofus.

It always made sense that it would be merged eventually.

It did it's job as a temporary stand-alone: getting itself read by people who never read the main thread.

It's good to know that you are now nicely calmed down from the outrage caused by temporarily having two threads.

Why would he do that when he's obviously compulsive viewing, as demonstrated by the numbers of people who queue up on here daily to slag him off.

The guardian and Matthew are still trying to get over the fact that labour lost the last election. It aches them everyday. Suck it up comrades

"Sexist to drool over TV hunks?" asks @5WrightStuff, yet it's sexist that they can show Aidan Turner topless at daytime, but not ANY WOMAN EVER!

I don't find him compulsive viewing. I only watch when I'm not in work as it's the alternative to the box being off and it's something to wake up to. When I'm in work, the only bit I catch up on is Kevin's TV section. The only other decent bit is the papers, but by the time I'm home from work it's no longer relevant. I'll only flick through something good I've missed if it gets a mention on here.

Most days it's two or three regulars commenting, maybe half a dozen on a good day. Hardly a crowd is it?

On a similar tack, MW congratulated a caller today for being brave, "broadcasting to the entire nation". Well, about 500k of them - Slight difference!

....

One of the last callers made a good point about the perception of male sexuality being tied to earning power. How many personal ads do we see where women blatantly advertise themselves but only to "solvent" men or "must have own home" etc..? And yet that's perfectly acceptable, laudable even amongst many women whose goal in life is to snag a bloke who'll work himself into an early grave so she can spend the pension!

Makes me wish the "Ignore" feature at this site wasn't such a blunt tool.

We all know what to expect from Matthew, and there lies the entertainment value of the show. The looks of horror on some of the panelist's faces as he goes into one of his rants, his fawning over certain guests he was slagging off the week before, his contradicting himself all the time, his need to be right on every subject, etc etc. all annoying, amusing, gobsmacking, all at the same time...........entertaining in an odd kind of way.

I've just been watching I'm Alan Partridge on DVD and was amazed at the similarities between him and Matthew!
