More tangents than a dodgy trigonometry lesson with Richard.

The thing about Richard is, because he talks three times as fast as a normal human being, he has to find three times the content to fill the same amount of time. Is it more annoying than Matthew's, "Lunar eclipse? I've got a friend who walked on the moon ..."?

Watching on plus one. Can't cope with Richard - just SHUT UP!!!!! Is he on all week?

I did like his one about the Looe - Polperro walk assassination attempt. I've walked that one and think Dicky ought to have thrown his stalker fan over one of the many cliff edges. Cornwall loves its celebs and would let him off.

Had to laugh at the end of show c*ck up with the sudden finish. Why didnt Storm or blue head girl flag him down and indicate his time was up.

Poor old Dickie doesn't have much luck with blokes walking on cliffs in Cornwall does he?

God, it's good to have him back!

I am surprised people are complaining that Dickie is annoying, won't shut up, has a personal connection for every story, or lacks self-awareness.

It's like no one has ever seen MW in action. By comparison Dickie is a picture of perfection.

Regardless I think the first talking point was a good example of why he is better. For a topic on the NHS we would not hear anything from the callers (who actually work for the NHS) or the doctor on the panel if MW was presenting. I don't care about Richard's foibles when it means there is an actual discussion rather than an objectionable monologue, mixed with random rudeness. Long live Dick, and don't hurry back Matthew.

They're two sides of the same coin. It's Madeley's glib, self-referential verbal diarrhoea that's just too much to bear in the final analysis. I don't recall anyone saying Wrighty's trillion topic-convenient "friends" are any less irritating than Dick's "Tales From My Life", just the opposite in fact as both are exaggerated or entirely fabricated as needed.

Wrighty's flaws are legion but my whole body isn't convulsed in a spasmodic cringe as I watch him whereas it most certainly is when viewing some Dick.

BIB nice phrase. Well fair enough and I know many can't stand Richard. I have always quite liked him and think he is fundamentally a decent guy, if "a tad" cringey. MW is a whole other case though and after years of watching I am a baw hair from giving up on the show because he is actually quite a nasty and offensive character these days. That incident recently with the IVF woman was a new low that made it all feel more than just an opinionated twonk with anger issues. Incidentally I realize from your post that I have somewhat fallen for the old straw-man for which I regularly criticize MW. Oops. Maybe Matt Barbet could restore calm.

Yes, the IVF rant was a low-point and for someone who's crossed the line as much as he has over the years, that's saying something.

I really like Richard subbing on the different programmes and think he has got his work/life balance great, And I for one don't find him bringing anecdotes about his experiences into talks annoying, i'm sure we all do it in one way or another when having discussions about various subjects, we all recall things that have happened in our lives so I don't understand all the running down of him doing that!.....

We may do it, but not as frequently as he does it. He just speaks and doesn't seem to be able to control his brain/mouth.

I really just don't like him as a presenter at all.

Ahh, so there we have it!. You don't like him so whatever he says or does will annoy you!, ... It's a shame but that's the way it is when we don't like someone!...

Yes we all do it and probably as frequently as he does, but the difference is you are not constantly censoring yourself like you do with someone you are not keen on!... It's the same with all of us so i'm not picking on you!.... Just saying......

totally agree. It's called living. Of course many of us will have personal experience of a topic or even - like Matthew - know people who fit the bill. Ok maybe not as many as MW but if you've done things/met people from different walks of life you have, like Dickie, examples to give.

Now and again, fine but not all the blimmin' time. Madeley would do well to remember he's the host, there to solicit opinions from the guests and, supposedly most importantly, the callers. It is NOT the Richard Madeley Show aka, "Recollections of Dick". And yes, same should go for Wrighty....

Dick listens to Lemar in the car...Lecar? That's his sales ****ed then.

Eight minutes in and we have the first (of many I'm sure) anecdickdote. I reckon he only asked that question so he could drone on about him & Judy onstage at the RAH.

They may as well give metrosexual robin of sherwood a spot on the panel.

Why is he canvassing opinion from the audience all of a sudden?
Too early for "prison is too soft" ranting.

Brilliant - While relating an anecdickdote he says "anecdotal"!

"I've never bought anything online" says Dick. You are officially the oddest man that ever lived.

Oh God, going to the audience. Going to have to cut stories again when they over run.

I can imagine Madeley saying that he really 'rocked it out'.

He's definitely one of those sad old farts who says "I rocked up to the pub/club/house/whatever...". A phrase beloved by female Radio 2 DJs - Yes, Jo Whiley I'm talking about you.

...

Dickedote or Anecdickdote? I can't decide....
