The answer would be a big NO Matthew. They get the job because they are the best at it not because of sex race religion or colour. Stop with this positive discrimination crap.
I never understand why people who take issue about how many of what race or gender don't consider that sometimes different people choose different careers and sometimes things turn out to reflect this as such.
You can't expect demographics in certain careers to fall perfectly in line with national demography.

Generally speaking......
Maybe Asian people prefer to work hard at school and university in order to prepare for a career in science or medicine?
Maybe the armed forces isn't something which appeals to women?
Maybe psychology isn't something that men prefer to go into as a career?

As long as everybody has an equal opportunity of education and employment, and nobody is being rejected on the basis of their skin colour or gender, then all that matters is that a particular demographic group isn't highly represented in unemployment figures.

It blew his daft argument apart though and Wrighty only wants phone callers agreeing with his views. Glad she cut him off.

If Wrighty feels so passionate about it then lets see if he will hand his job over to a black person.

I'm not holding my breath!
Why haven't the powers that be on C 5 done something about Matthews extreme rudeness to callers who don't go along with his views?

Err...yeah. Wrighty just had a pop at News Int. for not telling his researcher how ethnically diverse their staff were and yet any self-awareness about his own show and Five's lack of diversity seems wholly lost on him.
BBC News 24 has lots of presenters who aren't white.

Which would be interesting if we broke the BBC down channel by channel to see which of their own channels hire more or less people of ethnic backgrounds compared to the others in the BBC network.

And what about people hired by the BBC who aren't in front of the camera? People tend to speak about this in terms of people who are presenters, but perhaps the BBC make up for any shortfall by how many people of ethnic background work behind the scenes? Who knows? But they can't micromanage and police things to the ridiculous levels some would have them do. It's just not realistic.
Imagine if the national demographic changes over time and they still have people working in the job then that are there now. Would they have to start firing people just to make space for new people to level the figures and achieve quotas?

Beeb (and others) more concerned with the visible perception rather than the less visible reality.

The 89th appearance of Stefan Dennis. Can they get through this bit without playing his ancient record?
Don't it make you feel good?

Yasmin: "That's why I'm so left wing."

So left wing that you (and a group of other Hampstead 'lefties') urged voters to vote Lib Dem at the 2010 General Election, thus unleashing the coalition government on the very same poor people you are now ostentatiously hand wringing about. Well done, Yasmin.

Ugh, I cannot bear that woman.
She said that her partner encouraged their son to do a paper round, and she said that at the time she thought it was tantamount to advocating child abuse.
That to me suggests how out of touch she is with working class British people, or even lower middle class.

'So left wing' to me now feels like a euphemism for being very privileged. It certainly doesn't feel like the left wing I thought (possibly naively at the time) represented me growing up in the 1980s.

It really takes the biscuit when he disrespects and dismisses an Asian woman caller's personal experience when discussing a topic about race.

Quite probably. It would be interesting to know the stats in this regard for all channels anyway.
Maybe I shouldn't say that because it will be like a red rag to a bull for some people.

I suppose that also works on the phone. If you disregard an Asian caller in a phone-in topic about race it's okay because you can't see her, so she doesn't count.

Wrighty even has "friends" in Banksy's entourage - Is there no area of life in which he doesn't have "friends"? He's like Facebook-made-flesh!
Had to switch off during papers discussion as MW was getting on my nerves by not letting the panelists read the stories without interuption Yasmin is slow enough without him interupting every few minutes.

I know its not going to happen but Lee Hurst and Katie Hopkins on the panel with yas for a week. A ratings winner.

This thread is always lively when Yas is on.
Speaking of Lee Hurst, where is he ? I like him.

The fella's a first class prick and nutjob! I rarely watch now but was on leave today and I actually applauded that woman who shut him down - I'm surprised that a) anyone calls in and b) more don't do what she did!

That first lady lady calling farage racist has been outed as a huffington post blogger and diversity advocate and i think there was someone else asking the questions who was in the same boat.

If its not the racism card its the xenophobia card played by Yasmin this coming from a woman who demonises male white men every chance she gets. The sneering look she gave Dominic i thought he was going to turn to stone.

Hardly surprising an "out" voter thinks Farage won.

Waste of time phone-in.

Really?

If that's true then has somebody tried to create a stitch-up?

This is her apparently:

Quality audience vetting from ITV.

Face like thunder as the camera went to her as the Brexiteer caller was talking. Or was it because he was a MAN!

Lest we forget (as I'm sure she'd prefer):

'This man This man This man' yasmin bleats. Why don't you just go to that woman only holding area in Glastonbury already or better still go to a country where there are no white men. Whine whine whine.

Yas is only interested in democracy when it goes her way as was shown in May last year. She wants to beat Dominic. There may be blood by the end of the week.

Dom and Yasmin - It's a regular love-fest isn't it?

How deluded is she, offering kisses as an encouragement to vote "in"?!?!

Yasmin adopting the same "common man" accent that Wrighty employs when wanting to disparage their views. Interesting..

Do people really think Yasmin only condemns Noel Edmonds' ridiculous comments because he's a white man?
For heaven's sake.

Good grief, what a horrible woman.

Dominic says that we shouldn't rely on experts to run our lives because they can be wrong, and Yasmin was being very unreasonable and horrible to him. Like he'd killed her cat or something.
Even Matthew was trying to reign her in.
