I have to say watching that ITT with Gleb I was wondering whether he would ever be able to turn around my opinion of him, or whether he was always going to be just for ever vain and lazy.
I was remembering how much I disliked Natalie in her first year.

I'm thinking there must be. He apparently was lovely with his duffer on DWTS and did some really great choreography in Russia. But I think he's had 2 problems, the show running with the "he's so gorgeous, I could have a fit of the vapours in his mere presence" storyline which has gone on far too long and has us all eyerolling until we feel dizzy and secondly I think he's pitched his choreography wrong. He's gone the flashy DWTS Derek Hough, doesn't matter about the technique, let's just throw every style over substance move we can think of to cover deficiencies, rather than correct them. That's fine in US where they even employ dancers to be celebs, Nicole Scherzinger anyone, and are not that concerned with technique, they care more about the spectacle, but we're more reserved, we like it to be fair and for you to do it properly.

Was it only yesterday they were on?
Anyway I got the distinct impression that the mere mention of footwork and heel turns and heel leads were a poke at Len or the forums. Its a bit late now to start teaching Anita the technique. I think its a case of 6 of one and half dozen of other. He may well have taught Anita some technique, she just seems to dance from her waist up rather than waist down.
The jury is still out with me on Gleb, although I am erring on the side of he is all style over substance. I will be interested in how their foxtrot comes across when it should be a straight dance and no lifts/hopefully no huge production.
It is why I loved Louis' foxtrot a few years ago in the semi final - it was all technique and beautiful footwork.

I agree.
I actually think there is far more Gleb that meets the eye, in a good non gutter way! Watching that snipped of Gleb on the russian version, confirms that.
But I think the pairing of Anita and Gleb is one of those that 50% has hugely benefited both of them, and 50% has hindrance both of them.
For one, I think Gleb handsomeness and flashy routines made her stand out in the first half of the weeks and has maintain her momentum. Her fearlessness and attack has meant that Gleb has been able to do all that. If she had been paired with someone like Alijaz or Brenda, her fearlessness and attack would have provably not shown as much, though her technique would have improved.
Then I believe that a lot of people vote for Anita spite of Gleb, a lot of people vote for them because of Gleb (choreo, production and/or looks), but I doubt that many vote for the partnership itself.

I think Anita primarily wanted to raise her profile and show a different side to her personality (remember how much she loved the showgirl comments and the skimpy outfits at the beginning?). Becoming a dancer would be a nice bonus. It's job done as far as I can see, Anita Rani is now a household name.
I don't mean that as a criticism btw, I have no problems with anyone going on Strictly as a career push as long as they embrace the show and everything about it.
I also like Anita, there have been far worse dancers in the final five (Kenny Logan, Roger Black, Lisa Bloody Riley)
Well damn. I’d reached a pretty Zen place this week after feeling compelled to become better acquainted with redial for Anita last Saturday, and not just because there are 2 couples I seriously didn’t want to see in the Final – 2 Pro dances and one Celeb- and although Anita had had 2 not great dances she’d been my main reason for watching it this year and I wanted her to reach the Semis.
Job done and breathe. No, it’s safe to say she isn’t the strongest dancer, but other than Jay and Aliona I don’t get, enthused or anticipatory… except the inner snarls at the 2 couples for lifting the Glitter Ball. Breathing and inwardly smiling and Zen-like; she’s done great to reach the Semis after the last couple of not good dances and throughout the entire season she deserved to. I won’t be voting in the Semis because I’m just one person and I’ll see if I’m moved to throw my votes to a particular couple in the Final but not out of negativity. Let the cards fall where they may… maybe. 5 days of being pretty Zen given who might win.
Then I go on the ITT thread to find Anita’s Salsa song because my head just isn’t getting it and what the..? Okay, her feet. Rumba, oh dear, not good and wondered why Gleb hadn’t drilled it into her even as I was watching and praying not to see a Gleb special while wondering why she was just stood upright with her feet and ankles together at one point. But what the bliddy? The dastardly machinations of being too clever to metaphorically put a foot wrong in her ruthless quest to lift the Glitter ball? Not caring about learning to dance because the people/public love her? Not caring about sorting her feet out because it’s about popularity and everyone loves her? She’s ruthless, arrogant, demands admiration?
I no longer feel pretty Zen. I feel decidedly unattractive. Tomorrow? Ugly! I’ve got my old phone out of the deep dark closet I shoved it in after the Kartem madness which set in with a vengeance in the Semis when it was a Rumba to the Marks and Spencers music. I switched over the decade old phone from the handheld because it was too slow on the redial. Now 5 years later? It still works, it’s still rapid, I’m still only one person, and I’m contemplating having to move my humongous home office set up to switch phones… or camp out in the bedroom feeling pretty damn stupid.
I refrained from posting my teeth grinding aggravation at the Grimsby Siblings, and a whole host of other negatives, because I was relatively happy with how this year was going after completely zoning out of last year’s. I’ve been in and out of DS this year, mostly for the spoiler, and while it got quite nasty at times between partisan camps, this Anita bashing seems to have come out of left field. I’m wilting at the thought of my phone bill because the redial on that phone is rapid, like 6 seconds per vote rapid. I should have thrown it away after 2010 but I stupidly kept it for an interim in case my home phone broke. I’d do the Math but my head’s hurting.

I very much doubt that Anita at 38 joined strictly to learn to dance. If she was a sports person or a man, I could well believe that. Having a dancer mum means that if she wanted to learn to dance, she would have done it sometime ago, but she did not. Anytime growing up or as an adult she would have been able to do it and been supported.

No, I agree - and I hope it leads to more in the way of her day job for her because she is extremely good at it.
Any of the final 5 who become the final 4 deserve it - they've obviously connected enough with the voting viewers. I just wish Helen had managed it a little bit better - I'm trying not to feel the next couple of weeks reduced without her there, but struggling.

Possibly her publicist/manager suggested it for that reason and it seemed like a good idea at the time.
She's an excellent presenter anyway, but maybe wanted to expand her reach a bit - and why not? She gets paid to do it too, so no harm.
At this stage though you really want to be able to leave unscathed though and hysteria does not always work in your favour when the press get hold of it and turn it into silly headlines. Social media is uncontrollable and the GBP can be irrational. It slips from being a nice bit of profile raising to risk and reputation management.
I hope she remembers that, or at least whoever is advising her has come up with a good plan!

I think Marinamau has just about got it
I interpreted the wall of text as a rant about how they'd repeatedly voted for Anita in the semis because they disliked some other pro/celebs. And now they've seen people making "anti-Anita" comments they're going to spam speed-dial and spend a fortune voting for her in the semi-final because other people are mean.
Whatever floats your boat... But don't whine about it costing a fortune and lots of effort when it's your choice to do something like that.
Personally I'll just stick to using free votes for Jay

No, I see that - it's just that if you go into one of these things to learn a new skill-as-part-of-a-paying-job, you might as well actually learn the skill.
I think that Jay or Helen or Georgia could get on the floor at a mates wedding and give a good fascimile of a waltz ... but I think without the wings, hoist and superpinned on horns, Anita would be lost.

Me too, and I've found Anita fans this year far more vocal and rabid than any other. But it's just an opinion at the end of the day, you don't have to listen or agree. I certainly don't
