Ah. Now the BIB, is relatable. You look at it as dance as a performing art not as sport. I have a different view, though, about Anita. I like the way she dances and how she interprets Gleb's routines. I like her high-octane, flamenco-face Paso Doble as much as the light, chirpy Quickstep with the high jump on the their quickstep run.

I've been catching up this morning too, just finished Wednesday's. Been meaning to say for a few weeks that i'm jealous of and want all of the knitwear that OurLeona's been sporting so far but unappreciating that I wouldn't look as good in them as she does
(especially if I tried squeezing into the same sizes as hers

Me too. I was struggling to find an adjective to describe her dancing and my mum got it spot on, ungainly. I too hope she can do a straight foxtrot, but although I was impressed by them trying to get the technique right in the training footage, whenever she lifts her legs they are just so ungainly. Not just her feet, but her whole leg!

I was told on another thread, quite categorically!!, that most of that training footage is not "faffing about" but Aliona teaching him the in hold steps side by side, as she has to teach him the steps first and then do them hold. So I will wait and see if they are right

Just to clarify: I think she will produce a pretty traditional, full of basics routine - she's a smart cookie, she's stayed on the judges good side all this series. Or am I seeing that wrong?

As an early Gleb appreciator, I do believe/hope that he has tried to drill some technique through out. I do think the training of the Foxtrot did look really good.

I remember that point. Aliona was showing Jay's half of the steps, by getting him to follow her.

A local word here which means ungainly and a bit clumsy is 'unetten' and she's been called that here for a couple of weeks

She does have ungainly limbs, both arms and legs, and I guess they're the easiest thing to see to an untrained eye. Heel leads and , correct body position can be less obvious in a dance.
But then being fair, so does Kellie. Kellie and Anita are far better at the energetic and powerful than the soft and dreamy.
I guess they're both unfortunate that it's magnified by everyone constantly going on about how graceful and beautiful Jay's arms and legs are, it would usually be the guy in the comp who is pulled up for looking unfinished in his lines.

No, I think I look on it as a mixture of the both. I love to watch Gene Kelly dance, for instance, and I don't think there is any doubt he was an athletic dancer - but he was also artistic and graceful when needed.
I just don't get that with Antia - for me it's all one note. Other people see it differently and that's fine.

Their training also always looks a bit ropey, they seem to spend forever marking it out and not going at full pelt until you see it on the night and it looks completely different. You watch the bit they did in training and it's usually twice as fast on the night and has far greater performance levels.
But I would expect the bit we've seen of the VW in training to be out of hold, quite a lot of his waltz was out of hold or them facing the same direction, not each other. Think the waltzes are the only time you see Aliona in total waft, Artem did the same.

She did a very straight VW with Harry, but then she had got his hold up to being very good. With Jay's strength more in the waft, I expect to see some of that but hopefully not too much.
I do wonder about Georgia's VW. Yes she's been sick, but then she did VW for her AS and long periods in hold. So I expect her to be good and lots in hold, but then again illness may mean she can't keep it up.

OK. I misconstrued your original comment. I'll stand corrected; but dance as a sport is concerned solely with its mechanics & technical merits. Dancing by numbers, almost. Dance as performing art brings in the art element of dance such as interpretation, characterisation & other subjective elements. I mistakenly thought your original comment was on the side of the latter.
In any case, I'm just glad SCD isn't a sports-dance competition and more of a performing art, entertainment series. I don't think I'll watch if Tess opens with an earnest announcement of "Let the Footwork Begin!!" and then tells me to start watching out for whose head is angled .001 degree off Right or whose feet are not closed shut...ad infinitum.

It wasnt you, and she was actually very nice and informative about it. Said the same as you did. I should know never to post when I'm knackered and in a bad mood
I still think most of that footage was faffing (what others call wafting) with about 3-4 seconds of teaching the steps

It was me!
The segment we saw over and over again yesterday was a 10 second wafty bit, but the long training vid definitely had her teaching him his "in hold" part with him mimicking her. It's how they've learned every BR dance. This is the QS training:

If you break Jay's ballroom down, the choreography has a lot of faffing/wafting, it's where he excels, so she's going to choreograph as much as she thinks she can get away with as he's better out of hold (not terrible in hold, just better out). But on the other hand, she gets straight into the dances with no props or faffing at the beginning, so it's a matter of personal taste I guess

They do tend to always use the same 10 second bit of footage of Jay on Wednesday, in training and Friday panel, it's just in different clothing
