Loved Ourleona saying the Rumba is easier as there are fewer steps to remember. Full on snarking to everyone who goes on about the rumba being hard.

Oh "Once" is one of my favourite films, and " Falling Slowly" is such a beautiful song, I shall be crossing everything that Aliona choreographs something suitably gorgeous ( and I'm going to need a big cushion to hide behind anyway because that song brings tears to my eyes)

She's not buying the "it's uncomfortable for the man to act sexy" storyline. Don't think Jay will bother whining this week, she'll just give him the 🙄😂

It's one of those moments we love of Ourleona. She did say though "if you can master the fluidity of movement" or something like that. I think what she meant is that if you are a good natural dancer and have body awareness and control is not difficult.
I think it's one of those dances that it's hard to fake it. It's not difficult it's just that all the deficiencies are magnified.

As, I think, Anita found out. And possibly Gleb too .

Incidentally I absolutely love the film " Once " and if you watch it knowing the 2 leads are actually falling in love slowly during the course of the film I defy anyone not to weep copious amounts throughout the film

Just sad that the unexpected success for Glen sent him off the rails towards the bottle and they then broke up in real life. It was something you could imagine happening in the film as well. Real life and film muddled up and intertwined.

If you haven't seen the film it's one for a rainy Sunday afternoon with a throw and a hot chocolate, though I am not loaning out, Mr Coppertop who pretends he is busy then settles down, watches it too and has something in his eye frequently during the film.
It is a beautiful film, low budget with just feeling and emotional heart-tugging throughout. It's available to watch on Amazon Prime.

Strangely, was listening to Falling Softly a few days ago and thinking it would make a good rumba (it's the time of year, I frequently try to work out what dance would be most suitable to what's playing). I think if Aliona tries to restrain herself from full-blown contempowaft (or goes turbo contempowaft) it could be excellent, but it is the rumba so... Not necessarily Jay, but I do want someone to do a rumba that I absolutely love. My favourite is Chelsee's; not really sure why but something in it struck a cord for me. Even Kara's and Rachel's aren't very memorable for me.

Edit: shouldn't really say Kara's and Rachel's aren't memorable; I remember them fine just didn't love them.

Exactly! Or Helen.
I thought Katie's is the best one so far, but it isn't great as balance issues.

I laughed so hard at that

I loved Kara's, but then I think that was partly due to the music. It was one that didn't make me want to hide behind a cushion though.

Adored her for that

Made me laugh so much.

I'm rather hoping, looking at some images from Once that Jay finally gets to dance in a checked shirt. He could provide his own, save wardrobe money, and they could then add his budget to Kellie's and finally give her a decent dress

So far, OurLeona has told us the Charleston is easy to get high marks in and the Rhumba is a piece of cake because it has fewer steps . Come on, OurLeona - is the jive really that hard for tall people ❤️

Considering Jay's one of the tallest in the show this year, she probably thinks it doesn't need saying!

Gotta say, saying rumba is easy in rumba week, and Charleston can get away with murder with it for next week (can't see TPTB let them leave it out) - that's pretty cheeky!

I think Aliona will go for a contemporary feel because that is Jay's natural dance style and he can rise to it. I wonder if she'll go for bare feet. Wouldn't surprise me!

Not mad about the music myself and have not seen the film. It just never appealed to me.

I suspect the judges always say the rumba is hard because it demands a real sense of your own body confidence and the ability to show emotion and plain which, for many English men, is excruciating (they have a really hard time in AT too because it is so intimate). Even doing the Latin movement for them is mortifying.

And women can be just as uptight. Anita hates emotional stuff and Katie is much the same. I cannot imagine Kellie doing 'sensuous', unless it was behind closed doors.

I think she will as well, but she'll pack loads of basic rumba steps in there as well to please Len, she's gunning for it this year and I can't see her deliberately getting on Len's wrong side on this one, especially as he's been quite happy to point out and penalise for lack of rumba steps all series.

I worried for Jay this year that Aliona would repeat what she did with Harry - gradually build up the dance content per dance, but have loads of annoying filler. She hasn't - there's been no (so far!) Aliona specials, but loads of content every week. I agree, I think she'll pack plenty of basics in there. It may be a theme week but this song and dance won't really be helped by the theme, it'll be much as every other week as far as they are concerned.

I really hope so, but I wouldn't put it pass her to be a little rebel!

Love the film Once and love Falling Slowly.

Saw an interview with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova a few years after they'd broken up where they said they'd party become a couple because only each other understood the pressure they were under, especially as Falling Slowly became so popular, and they partly broke up because the age difference was so great.

I would recommend it, a lovely understated film beautifully acted

Ah poor workmanlike Kellie, sexy isn't in her skills, it wasn't in Anita's last week either, the waves of discomfort coming off her were epic.

If Kevin has to do a rumba go romantic for heavens sake

Been reading these blogs from a magazine.

Really suited to the NAT thread posters and DOTs of various types.

Love the HIT and MISS - but you need to read to the end.

Don't always agree with the writer - think she's another who is a bit hard on Jay - but what do I know?
