I wish someone could edit that clip to have Anton at the end whispering 'Awful' to Katie then spotting the camera and beaming like the pro he is.

I do wonder how Brendan ever lived that down TBH

Yep.

Someone was chanting, 'pickle me walnuts, pickle me walnuts' in time to the music too.

I've booked therapy in the New Year.
Bib good girl.

I am glad my only strictly related dram this year was not here nor there. No alijaz, Gleb, Tristan or Jay but no judges either . Just a trip to wardrobe and tons and tons of sequins.

Best phrase ever! And I think you'll find I'll be wearing my mardy cardi for a few months.
Mines had a lot of wear and been mended many times over the years . It's got Harry Judd elbow patches and everything

Any room in the wardrobe for 'grumper jumpers'

I think the final should be just two dances; after 13 weeks they're too knackered for three. One could be a public vote from the previous weeks' dances (thanks to Marianka Swain for that idea) and the other a Show Dance (even though there has only ever been two good show dances in the history of the show I live in hope of there being a third one).

And don't design the final to leave one couple not performing a dance they'll have spent precious time practising. It's just rude not to have seen Katie's VW.
In past years, when the showdance was last, they used to let the couple that had just gone out do their showdance. This is how we got Zoe and Ian's and Snowdance. I don't see why Katie couldn't do her VW (triumphantly, in a way that would have had the judges at least saying they would have all given her tens) as a goodbye, the way all other couples get.

Can I just un-appreciate Jay and Aliona's choice of music for their showdance. It is now stuck in my brain to the point that I keep singing it to myself and nearly broke into a bit of Charleston in Waitrose's aisles.
My husband thinks I have gone mad.
Happy Christmas everyone.

This sounds good, even though if possible I'd get rid of the showdances altogether. I don't suppose anyone ever gave a reason for dropping it either.

I don't know if anyone has made the ludicrous suggestion to have the final couples dance each others top scoring dance? I'll make it now and put it down to still suffering from post-Craigbrunoindragcharleston trauma.

Lisa and Brendan's Showdance
Don't have nightmares

I bet Brendan still wakes up in a sweat sometimes when he relives that dance.

I'll be honest - it made my Christmas that year, ROFL.
And to you, too 🎅🎁

Also watch the version with captions of comments from the DS thread running at the time. It's brilliant
Let everyone know what you thought...

Well.............

I watched the DS version (thanks Alli) and the music was lovely.

Other than that..........words almost fail me.

The comments were so funny and Brendan was sooooooo serious that the kindest thing I can say is that it was certainly memorable.

How did the judges respond to it at the time?

I've done this and in Waitrose too! The only problem is .. I've discovered that I've got absolutely no swivel action at all.
Happy Christmas Janet!

They didn't, if I remember correctly. The judges didn't get to comment because they had already been eliminated and it was their swan song. I think they stood and clapped - but whether that was for the dance or the series itself, who knows

Oh, you need the context! Lisa Snowdon was the biggest teachers' pet in the history of SCD. For some inexplicable reason they loved her, over Rachel (one of the best dancers ever in it), Austin (popular, Erin's best chance since Colin) and Tom (also popular, hideous gurner). She put out Austin in a dance off, because she and Brendan perfected one dance, Austin had two good dances. She did one of the slowest QSs ever, looking like a stately galleon. The judges got the semis badly wrong, basically meaning there was no way Tom could escape the dance off. They had to let all votes roll over to the next week. Meanwhile, in the semis, there was the yearly exhibition showdance by the world showdance champions.

In the final, the judges shower Lisa with 10s, but to no avail; she's first out. To say goodbye, she and Brendan perform their showdance, inspired by the exhibition the week before. And now you're ready to watch...

They loved it, Lisa was that years golden girl dragged into the final with over marking that was obvious from the moon, should could have fallen over in a dance and still got 10s, dragged through a series of dance off with Jamelia only beating her record this year, she was first out and we were lectured for not voting for the best dancer ever seen on the programme. Shades of this year all round.

Only to add - I do think Tom and Camilla's show dance was the bes ever. If the poster in question missed that series here's the link

Me neither .. I definitely wouldn't get a seven from Len (or even a two from Craig!)

I remember on ITT that week when they were talking about their Showdance they said it would either be totally brilliant or go horribly wrong

I'm not sure it did either - in reality the probably danced it the best they were ever going to be able - it was just that ambition overtook ability, screeched off into the distance at goodness knows how many miles per hour and refused to listen to reason.

In fairness the producers did learn from that series and the scoring was changed so that the Tom situation couldn't happen again. Did we also loose the dance off for the next season as well?

I think it was more "An Unexpected Journey".

Can I order a strop top to go under my mardy cardi?

And maybe I need therapy too but I'd quite like to see Bruno (in flapper dress) charlestoning with Craig.

No, do t think so. Wasn't series 7 Aliona's first year - in which case she was with Rav and survived the first judges decision when Matt/Martina went?

Add to that the general feeling of grumpiness in the series caused by Sargeantgate (In particular, Arlene's comments to him and Shimmy Jimmy having his snotfest on ITT over Cherie being eliminated before frantically back peddling after JS quit) it made for a particularly tetchy series as a whole, not helped by the male/female split weeks at the beginning making the series feel about 2 years long (in reality, about 3 weeks longer than it currently is).
