No, I don't think the producers are desperate for any particular couple to win, nor
am I into conspiracy theories about manipulation to get a particular couple the win, but I do think the producers encourage the judges to comment and/or score to engineer interest and excitement.
So, my take on this year (and I'm probably talking out of my proverbial) is that they fear people will lose interest because they think Danny has it in the bag. Louise doesn't seem to be generating much interest so far; Daisy has gone off the boil, and Laura is proving a bit of a disappointment. Ore obviously has talent and Joanne upped her game in Week 3. They see that Ore's jive is looking good in practice, so suggest to the judges that they might try and be positive in their comments. Come Saturday Ore plays a blinder and Len (not a man noted for either subtlety or diplomacy) over eggs it with "Move over, Jay". Nobody seems to be bothered with Bruno's praising it alongside Jill and Jay.
Now, Ore isn't a stupid man and I guess his inner reaction when he heard Len's words was "Shiiiiiiiiit! Take a sledgehammer to my knees, why don't you? You couldn't do more damage." Hence, his 'always wanted to learn the jive; being compared to Jill and Jay is beyond his wildest dreams' performance on ITT as an exercise in damage limitation.”
Completely agree with you, I don't think they have a master plan at all but the judges do fall for various dancers or partnerships and then get petulant when they are not popular, Kelly last year through to Lisa Snowden.
Ditto they take against others, Len and Artem with most of his partners, through to Giovanni last year.
I can remember Len and Craig doing it, Darcey getting all peculiar over muscles, but Bruno seems to be an equal opertunity luster and I can't remember him over favouriting anyone except maybe SCOOOOOT.
