I'll leave you with this. Not that we will ever see the like on SCD!”

That AT clip was seriously wow! It would be quite something if some semblance of a proper AT featured in Danny and Oti's dance at the weekend. Jonathan Platero (Oksana's husband) from SYTYCD is doing the choreography. A fm mentioned that he was responsible for Ore's salsa which doesn't bode well. Happy to be proven wrong though, if there's a couple capable of delivering good dancing coupled with connection/feeling seriously who else but D&O.

Unless they've done other dances before, they haven't got a clue.

I was explaining to my AT teacher yesterday why I do an intensive 5-6 one-to-one lessons with AT pro dancers every year to 'unlearn' the bad habits I might pick up from dancing with AT leads who cannot lead. I over compensate for them! We all do! It's such a pain.

He shook is head sadly and agreed that it was the 'followers' who had the hardest job over here in the UK, stuck with men who won't go to enough classes, never learn to lead and then try and teach YOU on the dance floor. In AT teaching on the floor at a milonga (dance) is a mortal SIN!

Whilst I admire your 'glass half full' attitude, remember he choreographed Jwann and Ore's salsa. This is what Wikipedia says about him,

Quote:
“Born May 24, 1988, is a salsa dancer from New York City. Platero was a gymnast before he began dancing at age 16. He is a graduate of Seminole High School, was a World Salsa finalist in 2006-2007 and performed as a dancer and acrobat in “High School Musical.” He was paired up with Contemporary jazz dancer Karla Garcia but was eliminated in the third week. Jonathan can be seen as one of the dancer in the "Physical" number in Glee (Bad Reputation). He can also be seen as one of the principal dancers of the "Cinderela Christmas" Panto production at The El Portal Theatre for their 2011-2012 shows. During season 10 and 11 Jonathan returned as a choreographer.”

If last Saturday's dog's breakfast was what he produces when he's choreographing his specialty, I fear for his efforts at something he doesn't appear to have done before.

Platero is only a salsa dancer. He doesn't dance anything else. Before he did salsa he was a wrestler for heaven's sake. He is pretty but Ore's salsa was utter rubbish.

Probably does Cross-Body or LA style as well. Yuck, yuck, yuck!

Have just spotted this.

That is terrible. I had so hoped they'd get some decent AT people in. London is full of them!

Jeez. Clearly the PTB are too mean!

Doomed!

If this is what passes for 'choreography in Platero's book, his concept of an AT will be cringe worthy.

Is this tacky or what?

I suffered it as far as where she punches him twice in the chest. I think my just-eaten lunch may be making a reappearance.

Sorry to gatecrash the thread, but that was supposed to be a rumba

Any AT is going to be a gymnastic lift-fest.......

That was supposed to be a rumba?

I thought it was supposed to be some sort of contempo domestic violence bollox.

BTW, are you any relation to oldshep?

I think Jonathan is to Oksana as Janette is to Aljaz. She's the one with the grounding in ballroom/latin, he's the hoofer who took dancing up late after doing other stuff and is trying to diversify all over the place. Except Janette is, to be honest, a better, more versatile dancer. Every time he turned up to do choreography on So You Think You Can Dance in the years after he was a contestant it was a car crash. Even then I think they only started bringing him in because one of their regular salsa choreographers got done for DV/sex abuse (I can't remember which).

Well, that's what the description under the video was (I had to scroll down to it to check wtf it was supposed to be!). If Oksana and Rob make it to the final I can see another baco-foil showdance coming on

I am not knowingly related to oldshep (but oldshep could just be an Elvis Presley lover )

It's not a rumba. Looks like some sort of showdance. I think the comment below the caption is wrong (the music rhythm is wrong for a rumba anyway).

This is their rumba www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEPfrlA0B3k

Not to my taste but more clearly a rumba.

Did I read somewhere it was him and Matt Flint - Ore salsa man and a tap dancer?
What could possibly go wrong!

I'm glad you did scroll down. It's nice to know what it was supposed to be.

Well we've had a Morris dancing with domestic violence AT so surely it's time for a tap dancing party AT?

Blimey, that makes what Greg did with Natalie for their rumba look positively on point.

I guess having your spouse on the show is the only criterion for getting such a gig. Makes no sense otherwise.

All that potential and they opt for a salsa dancing ex-wrestler... awful. If he's partial to a little plagiarism or research by way of youtube there's a brimful of classy AT out there he could draw on and incorporate into a routine. I won't hold my breath though.

Yes the Janette/Aljaz link is spot on. Janette tends to be hit-or-miss as a strictly pro but she's a fab dancer. I knew absolutely nothing about JP until I read all your responses, unfortunately D&O AT is looking like a lost cause and a missed opportunity.

Oti mentioned JP name only on social media. I'd imagine a number of the outside choreographers would love to work with Danny and Oti so perhaps MF is hankering to get involved.

What a tacky pair of dances from the Plateros. Someone buy the man a shirt! he seems to be very "look at me" rather than "showing off his lay-dee". I sincerely hope they don't hire him as a partnering pro on SCD

Bleurgh.
I actually felt grubby after watching that. And not grubby in a good way, like when Artem used to take his shirt off or Gleb was floor bothering, but grubby in a way I haven't experienced since the Vorderumba.
* shudders and runs off to Google to find some nice soothing pictures of Gorka dressed as a policeman *

Somewhere, Brenda gets the huff and thinks, no, I do the inexplicable showdances.

Wonder if she is going to attempt any of the lifts with Rob?
