My Freesat box will no longer record?
On Sunday morning when switching on my Freesat box I had found my months worth of recordings had all disappeared and it was now showing that only 1% was being used with no recordings. It will also not make any new recordings whether they are programmed or if I press the record button. I have tried a factory default but still it won't record. The Freetime on demand service still works and watching live TV is OK. Do you think this is hard drive failure and is there a way for knowing for certain through settings? I have the Humax HDR-1000S.

Based upon other posts elsewhere. The drive is usually OK, You can check by removing it and looking at it with disk manager on a Windows PC.. If you are like the others posts it could be a defective SATA controller on the motherboard or even a firmware problem.
In system settings - storage. Does in show detection of a hard-disk? |

The box is no longer under warranty so if it isn't an easy fix I will ditch freesat all together. I have a free tivo box because I have broadband and phone with Virgin media and I have an Amazon Fire TV so I can get by without. If the best Freesat can offer is these crappy Humax boxes then I despair. |

Its probably a harddrive failure, there normally sata drives, and very simple to replace, normally when u install a new drive and turn on it will prompt to format and away u go again, it is a very common problem, as hard drives get a massive pasting in these types of devices

About a month ago I had this exact same problem, turned the box on one morning and all recordings lost and HDD not being recognised.
No matter what I tried, nothing would bring back the recordings or could I get the HDD to be recognised, I even had the HDD out and tested it, there were no problems, the rest of the box was completely dismantled and then re-assembled but still no joy. After reading about the same problems by other users on this forum but with no clear solution I gave up and continued to use it just as a receiver for the time being while I evaluated my options. After nearly two weeks of the same I turned it on one morning and it booted up normally with all my recordings back to normal and it has been ok ever since for the last couple of weeks. I have no idea what caused the problem and no idea why it came back ok. Maybe a dodgy update/download overnight one night that was fixed by another two weeks later? |

I essentially had given up on trying to get this box to work again for recording so for the last few months I have been using the box in the bedroom for watching live TV only. Now the other thing that had happened when the hard drive stopped working was the TV channels logos on the TV guide were missing. So I suspect the hard drive is needed for this as well? Anyway yesterday I noticed they were back and looked in recordings and hey presto all of my recordings were back and it is recognising the hard drive again! So after 7 months of not working the box is recording again. I suspect an update has cured this?
