I take it this was genuinely filmed in NZ? If so, was it filmed recently or while Capaldi was in the region during his 'world tour' last year?
It seems a bit of an expensive extravagance to send Capaldi and a Dalek all the way there just for this video, so could they be filming something there already? Perhaps the Christmas special ends there, leading into the first episode of series 10 directed by Jackson?

The Dalek is Peter Jackson's own I believe (uses it to keep out Intruders by the looks of it).
However the way they keep running with the PJ directing an episode joke I wouldn't be too surprised if it is announced at some point that he's doing one for Series 10.

it was filmed pretty recently (the comments in the email are something Moffat only said recently), Capaldi has been down there (pics of him on the Hobbiton set emerged in the last few days) but no idea if he's just been on holiday or there in an official DW capacity.
As I said I think the Dalek is PJs own but Capaldi obviously packed his costume (looking at the vid again it might just be PC's own suit) for the trip so it was something planned in advance.
I don't know how I'd feel about PJ doing a Doctor Who story. Huge fan of Tolkien's Middle-earth books, from The Lord of the Rings to The Silmarillion to The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, but the Tolkien snob in me can't watch PJ's Middle-earth without a scathing disapproval of some of the changes he made. I've never been able to get into his other stuff, either. That said, Doctor Who is a completely different subject, and he'd only be directing, which is less influential than it is for a big Hollywood film.
I'll be worried if he has the Doctor crying and falling over a lot and trying to kill his companion, like he did with Frodo.

I believe he went over there to do some press stuff in Auckland and then stayed for a week for a holiday with his wife. I only know this because I was reading some stuff online.... not because I'm some creepy stalker haha.

You'd have to take that up with Tom Baker, amongst other people who have been involved in working on, or even creating, Doctor Who.
