Recording catch up
I don't know weather this has been asked before but goggled it and could not find the answer so I am hoping someone on here can help.
At the weekend I was almost ready to purchase a freesat pvr with freetime and noticed that while reading a manual for one online you are unable to record what Sky call catch up tv and only record live broadcast the same I believe applies to the freeview platform as well. With Sky I am able to download and save a recording and it roughly gives me a month to view before its automatically deleted. This is a real plus for us with slow internet connections. I think its got something to do with digital rights management or something I have managed to unearth somewhere. How do Sky manage this when I understand neither Virgin, Freesat or Freeview cannot. ![]() ![]()

Sky use a totally different system for catch-up to all the others. Sky uses a progressive download system where all catch-up content is downloaded to the HDD and is not streamed to the box. Because of this Sk automatically have the rights required (and probably pay more for them) whereas other platforms have to pay extra for download rights and have the required extra hardware and software to do so and except for on the PC and tablets choose not to do so.
