It was the worst dance i've ever seen on Strictly.

Welcome to the show! I didn't realise you were so new here. Think yourself lucky you missed some of the real horrors, like Peter's jive or Iwan's cha cha.

Not a survivor of Quentin's series 2 cha cha, then

I haven't been able to get "Oom pah pah, oom pah pah" out of my head all morning

It pretty much had none of the characteristics that makes the VW my favourite ballroom dance (Helen's was much more my cup of tea) but in a perverse way I kind of loved it (I think).

I assume you started watching only this series then? Otherwise you'd have seen the horrors of Gary Rhodes, Kate Garraway, Ann Widdicombe, and a lot of others...

I've seen worse but it was pretty dire - frenetic, messy, over worked, vulgar and loud. Bit like a very bad am dram performance in a village hall.

Awful!

I'd still rather it than Lisa Riley's salsa! (And it was in the semi final too!)

Wasn't keen on this dance tbh.

Yes, and Kellie and Georgia gave it whole-heartedly, turned the pastiche into a performance and (eventually) were rewarded with well-deserved places in the semi-final.

Wow, that was a VW? I skip most of the show so didn't know. I was actually wondering what dance it was supposed to be
There were some bits where Kellie kind of looked like she'd gone wrong - one of the bits was when the blokes were passing her around (lol) and then put her up on the table. It was like she wasn't dancing. Also felt it seemed a bit 'contained' and I was worried they were going to dance into the backing people.
Overall I liked it as an attempt but it didn't quite work for me.
Dress was better. But we're talking Kellie standards here. The colour was horrible, way too much of it and way too bright. Also the floaty bits were a bit too much for her teeny tiny upper body.

Hyperbole. Much?

Awful!”

The dancing was it was exuberant, light-hearted and a joy to watch. Other parts of the performance were rambunctious, exuberant and echoed the scene from Oliver. The performance was in keeping with the song. It was musicals week. So exactly what did you expect to see with that particular song?

i re-watched it and there was more VW in it than I had first thought. I loved how they enjoyed dancing it and although none of the dances had that wow factor of previous weeks, Kellie and Kevin's was the best of the evening for me. Kellie always gives her dances all she can muster, which is amazing considering her work schedules and family. I am glad the way things have fallen in that she is practically guareented a place in the final now

A bit of a puzzle, that. It looked like the backing dancer got her too tight up against the table and he lifted her she landed flat footed rather than on the beat. I guess the idea was for her to kick off the tankards one by one on the first quick of the waltz but it got a bit muddled.

I thought it was a very strange song to give Kellie and Kevin for that kind of dance, but despite that, they did pretty well with it. Helen and Alijaz were another pair who got pretty unsuitable music but made a decent fist of it (and would have been okay if they hadn't been against such a good dance-off opponent).
Anita, on the other hand, had a fantastic song which would have been utterly brilliant if performed well. It wasn't performed very well, but was so wonderfully staged that it carried them through anyway.

Rambunctious!!! What a perfect word to describe Kellie's performance.

Must admit I'm in full Basil Fawlty mode seeing these comments about how awful it was. It's a cheesy ballroom dance show celebrating a gloriously vulgar art form such as musical theatre. Maybe it should be showing "The Sydney Opera House? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of Wildebeeste sweeping majestically across the plain?"

Well done on avoiding Bacofoil and the VODERUMBA.

Their VW was a bit OTT but I've seen far worse. And they couldn't exactly do much with that song choice.

I nearly went all Fawlty Towers too and quoted that fabulous speech!

Why all the fuss about the Oom Pa Pa dance on SCD? Isn't the song related to the Oom Pa bands from Austria and Germany? And the waltz certainly originates from these parts!

I was thinking it could have been an act from the Good Old Days and introduced with all the verbal dexterity possible by Leonard Sachs.

A Viennese Waltz?

It was not a waltz though. And Kevins choreography is terrible didn't he do the 'jumping over tables' thing several times before.

Bit easier to do a foxtrot to 'Beauty and the Beast' than a VW to 'Oom Pah Pah' or a paso to 'At the End of the Day' though. Team GG had it much easier than some plus their performance was good but lacking in wow factor (for me.) Not sure anyone, in years to come, will be picking it as their fave Strictly foxtrot or even remembering it for that matter.
I think the judges were more lenient (over things like dancing on tables) because it was a theme week so the emphasis was on entertainment.
