My local Barnes & Noble was having a 50% off British TV sale this week, so I picked up a bunch of Pertwee serials which I still needed including The Three Doctors, The Green Death, Invasion of the Dinosaurs, The Sea Devils, The Curse of Peladon, The Mutants and Carnival of Monsters.

I now only need three more Pertwee serials.
Some absolute classics there! -I bet you enjoy pretty much all of them

My only complaint is 1 or 2 of them are a little too long. The Mutants for example, but I actually quite like the story unlike many classic fans who have seen it, especially the visuals & the basic premise.

Some good news for Nth American & Australasian fans of classic Who hanging out waiting for the very last classic story DVD to be released in Region 1 & Region 4.

The dates are now here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...video_releases

So that's:
2 December here for us in Region 4... Hey that's like 5 days ago, what have I been doing?!?

And 1 March for fans in the States & Canada (Region 1).

"The circle is now complete" (well almost)

Err, sorry I guess I'm building up a little in anticipation to something coming from a long time ago, in a galaxy... that one can only assume the good Doctor has already visited.

Bit annoying that the US has a date for the complete series 9, yet still no word here in the UK.

Guessing it will likely be around the same time (maybe slightly earlier)

I really, really hope that they release the Complete Series 1-4 on Blu-Ray in the US this next year. Otherwise, it will be a really scant year for releases.

Also, with such a delay as to the release of The Complete Series 9, hopefully The Wedding of River Song will be on there.

The wedding of river song was on the season 6 set. Hope the season 9 set is worth waiting for in the way of extras and commentaries. We definitely do not have deleted scene packages anymore, something moffat has blocked. All i am expecting is the doctor who extras already on the 2 part version, a comic con thingy, a couple of bbc made for tv features and the now usual 3 or 4 commentaries. I already have part 1 but will wait to see if it will be worthwhile myself getting part 2 or the complete set.

My apologies; you are correct. I, of course, meant The Husbands of River Song, the current Christmas Special. LOL!

There was no BBC or BBC America documentarys to go with this series so unless BBC America has something coming up at christmas there will be no full length features like the series 8 set. I have a feeling there will be the full masie williams and rufus hound video diarys (we have seen a few sneaky peaks on youtube videos) the doctor who extra episodes and a few comentarys - think this will be a set i could do without (at least til a major price drop )

That's a standard BBC response whenever they're asked about something not yet officially announced. It roughly translates as "sod off, we'll announce it in our own time and not before".

A complete set has already been announced for the US and Germany, so there's no reason whatsoever to think that the UK will be treated any differently this time than for any previous season.

There was never going to be an underwater menace release but it happened. They are going to want to maximise sales on the part 1 and part 2 release in the new year first. Patience.

I've never bought the "Part" season boxed sets and never will. I'm happy to keep the current run on my DVR until the full season release (in case I get an urge to re-watch before then). I don't like the season split across two boxes on the shelf, you don't know what extras you may be missing, and they always work out more expensive than the full season boxed set, even at the full season initial price.

They're a blatant a rip off and exist solely to cash-in on fans' impatience, proven by the fact that The Husbands of River Song and the Sherlock Christmas special, that obviously haven't even aired yet, already have release dates and are up for pre-order. If they can release those that quickly they could also do it for the full season release, if threy chose to.

Plus, if the split box sets didn't exist, I'm sure the full season boxed sets would get earlier releases!

I got the part 1 set for less than £ 12 so if I wait for part 2 to drop to a similar amount then I have the full season for less than £25. Been unimpressed by the extras on the season sets since the rtd years, nothing on them I would ever want to rewatch so my feelings on a full boxset is like meh.

My friends and I finished "The Mutants" today; it was a lot of fun. We will not meet next weekend due to Christmas, but we will continue Pertwee's reign when we return in January.

By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of y'all!

Interesting decision to be made by those who bought the part 1 season 9 set. Certainly won't he getting part 2 now. Might have to write off the £11.49 already paid for part 1 and get the complete set. At least got some art cards out of it.

I haven't been able to find out whether there are any extras on the separate release of The Husbands of River Song that aren't in the full season 9 boxed set.

Anybody know?

Both features on the 2015 special are also listed on the complete set.

Thanks again, benny. Sounds like there's no need to get the separate release then.

I wonder if the BBC would consider releasing a "River Song Adventures" compilation set with all her stories presented in the order of her POV. Or would it highlight too many inconsistencies if the various stories are viewed back to back?

I've been using Chapters/Indigo bookstore gift cards to round out my Region 1 DVD collection. Just logged on to Chapters to add funds and EVERY single DW title is listed as "no longer available online". Damn.

Fortunately, Amazon still has the few that I need, but I wonder how much time I have before the R1 library is completely out of print...

I rather like that idea, but I think it would probably need some editing and some narration to make the story "flow". Despite having all C21 DW released so far, I'd probably go for a set like that.

I've banged on about it before, but I wish they'd put on disc as an extra the "River's Story" that was in DW Extra a few years back - or preferably now - an updated version. I've kept it on my Sky box since it aired, but hard disks don't last forever.

I've always bought the parts since getting some for Series 1 and wanting to keep my collection coherent (thanks Series 8 for mucking that up!). I'm not interested in the special features either, and I do generally save money as well - admittedly I found Series 8 for pittance online shortly after it came out by pure luck. But I've never paid more than £25 for a full series, Christmas special included. And it also makes it easier for people to buy me Doctor Who as gifts for birthday/Christmas as they're individually a cheaper purchase too

Now that the RTD era is available on Blu-ray series-by-series I may upgrade the collection and either pass on my DVD's to my sister or donate them
