It does include both Christmas episodes.

With S10 delayed until spring 2017, if THORS wasn't included on the S9 boxset, it wouldn't be on one for over 18 months!

Last Christmas would have been on the S8 boxset, except that the BBC rushed it out before Christmas, not an issue this year
Wasn't it almost two years before The Doctor, the Witch and the Wardrobe got a boxset release, what with Series 7 being stretched out? I can't really remember when the boxset came out.

The Series 7 box set was released at the end of October 2013, so yes - nearly two whole years since TDTWatW was broadcast. Originally the episode wasn't planned for the box set, but there was a large number of complaints about it being absent and they eventually changed their minds and included it

Yes thats right I remember thinking at the time before the limited edition 50th Anniversary boxset came out why they just didn't wait till after The Time Of The Doctor aired and then include both it and Day Of the Doctor in the series 7 set but i was lucky enough to get that set at the time. I don't know what they have done recently to the reissued series 7 sets whether they have included Day and Time of the Doctor or whether they have left them out because i remember ending up with Name of the Doctor twice because it was also included in the 50th Anniversary set as well as the series 7 set.

Day and Time of the Doctor are only available individually or in the deleted 50th anniversary set. The reissued Series 7 set is just smaller packaging.

I remember the threatened riots outside BBC Enterprises, as I think initially TDTWATW was to be included in the US box set and not the UK one.

Due to the variable scheduling and the 2013 specials, the S7 and S9 boxsets have 2 Christmas specials, while the S8 boxset has none!

Little thing, but Amazon have a Series 9 Steelbook.

The Series 9 'Amazon exclusive' steel-book is ONLY available on the Blu-ray edition NOT (bog-standard) DVD.

Well, it's an understandable reaction considering how popular TDTWATW is with most fans.

I don't hate it, myself. At least it's got Manny from Black Books uttering the name Androzani.

According to a member on gb more region 1 dvds have gone out of print. City of death, the happiness patrol, dragonfire, the krotons, colony in space, the sensorites and attack of the Cybermen. No news of any region 2 deleted dvds at the moment. Doesn't appear to be a date for underwater menace yet either.
I have been reading around on this a bit and it looks as if it is true. That makes the list of out of print in Region 1 (USA and Canada) DVDS as such (along with their US DVD Story number in parentheses, the number that you will find on the back of the DVDs):

First Doctor
The Sensorites (7)
The Rescue/The Romans (11/12)
The Web Planet (13)
The Time Meddler (17)
The Gunfighters (25)

Second Doctor
The Invasion (46)
The Krotons (47)
The War Games (50)

Third Doctor
Terror of the Autons (55)
Colony in Space (58)
The Time Monster (64)
Planet of the Spiders (74)

Fourth Doctor
City of Death (105)

Fifth Doctor
Black Orchid (121)
Time-Flight (123)
The Awakening (132)
Frontios (133)
Planet of Fire (135)

Sixth Doctor
Attack of the Cybermen (138)
The Mark of the Rani (140)
The Two Doctors (141)

Seventh Doctor
Dragonfire (151)
The Happiness Patrol (153)
Battlefield (156)
Ghost Light (157)
The Curse of Fenric (158)

I hope that this helps some of the collectors out there. And, ugh, I just realized that I don't have Attack of the Cybermen. That means that I will have to pay out of the nose for a Colin Baker story again. Nuts.

Attack of the Cybermen is going for $99.99 on Amazon.com. I do recommend to anyone collecting the dvds to use the frontios section of gallefrey base as there is a wealth of shared information on there. Discount codes, offers, dvds out of print etc. Saved a small fortune that way.

I am watching Dr. Who and The Daleks for the first time. How in the world was he allowed to plagiarize himself so much? He uses the same name, the same plot, the same everything. LOL! It is The Daleks in color with minimal if any changes. As a note, the early Daleks in color are cool. But how did the BBC allow Terry Nation to use his script for the movie? Were they so glad at the success of The Daleks for Doctor Who that they didn't care? It is insane.

P.S. I just went ahead and ordered The Attack of The Cybermen. It cost me $100 (which means that I will not be able to pick up The Underwater Menace when it is released on March 1st), but I didn't want to wait until it went even higher in price. Sigh.

It was a pretty normal thing at the time for TV stories to be adapted as movies.

Back in the 1950s, the first two Quatermass stories made the jump to the big screen as The Quatermass Xperiment and Quatermass II, and Quatermass and the PIt completed the set in the 1967.

There's a fair few others as well. Nigel Kneale's BBC play The Creature ended up becoming Hammer's The Abominable Snowman, the now lost ITV serial The Trollenberg Terror was filmed under its TV title, as was The Strange World of Planet X, although they made substantial changes to the storyline, Not forgetting Time Slip from the fifties - another BBC sci-fi tale.

The two Doctor Who movie spin-offs were no different - Milton Subotsky wanted to make a movie version of the original Dalek stories, and that was the idea he approached the BBC with.

Why the delay in the release of the underwater menace in R1? Now estimated 24th may 2016.

Most Sixties and Seventies comedy films have the same jokes in them. I guess it was the times and "Joe Public" would not notice.

Argh. Back in 2014 they released split parts of Series Two through Four here in the US in order to have something to release to fill the schedule. Rather than give us the long awaited for Complete Series in Blu-Ray, they now seem to be reviving this trend in order to give us Series 5 in two parts. Series Six and Series Seven were already released in parts due to their airing in parts, so they will probably be skipped for this procedure. However, I could be wrong. LOL!

Anyways, with their seeming unwillingness to ever release the first four Series on Blu-Ray here in the US, I am going to take them off of the list while I add on the Series Five Parts One and Two.

Also, it looks as if a Spearhead From Space Steel Box Blu-Ray edition is being released in the UK.

That will make the list:

The Husbands of River Song: UK: Released, US: February 23rd
The Underwater Menace (finally!): UK: Released, US: March 1st
The Complete 9th Series: UK: March 7th, US: April 5th
Series Five, Part One: US: March 15th
Spearhead From Space Steelbox Blu-Ray: UK: March 28th
Series Five, Part Two: US: May (?)

Without any further announcements about Special Editions, Steelbox Editions, anymore found lost episodes, The Witch's End stuff (in the UK) or The Complete Series 1-4 on Blu-Ray (here in the US) (the latter two of which I am not sure will ever be released), the list will actually end. After that, it would be a long wait for Class or anything else to be released and the releases would probably be so infrequent as to not require a list.

I hope that I am wrong about this and that some more releases turn up, but we are coming to the point where The Doctor Who DVD cow may have been milked dry.

..maybe the case but it's good to see some of the classic series Target novels are going to be rereleased in original design, with artwork in the books, and digitally too:

-I was going to start a new thread on this but thought it appropriate to add here too (even if it has nothing to do with releasing DVD's per se)

It is all good. With as little as we are likely to have to talk about on this forum for the next six months, thread consolidation is bound to happen.

Well, I am going out of town this next week (Sunday-Wednesday), so I will not be posting then on this list. Thus, I am going to go ahead and make Tuesday's change now. With The Husbands of River Song being released Tuesday here in the US, that makes the list:

The Underwater Menace (finally!): UK: Released, US: March 1st
The Complete 9th Series: UK: March 7th, US: April 5th
Series Five, Part One: US: March 15th
Spearhead From Space Steelbox Blu-Ray: UK: March 28th
Series Five, Part Two: US: May (?)

I can't wait for The Underwater Menace to be released here on March 1st (assuming that it still will be, I think that there were some contrary rumors earlier in this thread). I came across some money, so I am going to pick it up on March 1st along with possibly the other six remaining DVDs that I need to finish out the 20th Century Doctor Who. (I am really tired of stuff going out of print on me.)

Yeah, thanks. After double-checking, it looks as if you are right. It won't be released until May now.

That makes the list:

The Complete 9th Series: UK: March 7th, US: April 5th
Series Five, Part One: US: March 15th
Spearhead From Space Steelbox Blu-Ray: UK: March 28th
Series Five, Part Two: US: May (?)
The Underwater Menace (finally!): UK: Released, US: May 24th

I wonder what the reason for the delay is. Maybe to release Season Five Part One in March, The Complete 9th Series in April, The Underwater Menace in May and then Series Five Part Two in June? That could be it.

Because a good thirty or so Region 1 Doctor Who DVDs including Attack of the Cybermen are currently out of print. See my post at 12-02-2016 01:25 in this thread for the list.
