Finally decided to upgrade my collection to Blu-ray retroactively, starting with Series 9. HMV are doing pre-orders of the Blu-ray set for £30 in selected stores. Got my pre-order in the other day with Peter Capaldi lined up to sign it next Monday, I cannot wait

I tried to get the discount last week when theprice was £31.99 and my fault I just missed the deadline. Now the price has gone up to £42.99! With the discount £32.24.

Amazon is just slightly cheaper at £31.99. I don't know whether to wait a few months for the price to go down

Bbc shop back to £31.99. The price increase was tempory to protect against what i did cancelling my pre order and reordering at the low price.

That makes sense, the point of these discounts is presumably not to slash their profit margins on newly issued products, but rather to generate sales on existing products.

I.e. to get me to buy more Classic Doctor Who DVDs

The usual 10% off if you spend >£30 is still there, which seems to be available to everybody if you haven't used it already this month. Just click on the "Dont have a promotion code?" link as you check out and the site itself tells you the code (which is 10OFF30) (10OFF42 if you're in Europe, not in the UK, and spend > €42).

Just pre-ordered the limited edition series 9 blu-ray from amazon for £40. I have £20 spare and want to get the series 8 blu-ray to have all the revival episodes, but am struggling to find a good price for it? Does anybody know of anywhere I can get it for 20 or less, or any discount codes that might decrease the price?

Thanks

It's going for £23 on eBay, though the BBC Shop itself is selling it for £24.99 brand new/free delivery too. You'll be hard pushed to find it cheaper than that right now I think

I checked HMV, Zavvi and Zoom for you as well and they're all notably pricier.

Cheers for that. You don't happen to know of any discount codes on the BBC store do you?

It's worth registering on the BBC store website, as that way you'll get the discount emails. They seem to be quite frequent (there have been two 25% of days recently, and a 14% off offer on Valentine's day, but only last for a day or so each time.

I really wish I could go to London to meet Pete but sadly miles away from London.

My season 9 complete set sat on my doormat when I got in The commentary and the extra feature from the stand alone last Christmas disc made it to the complete set.

Mine has arrived too! I managed to watch a little of the special features, but other things stopping me from actually sitting down and enjoying the lot! Can't even get time today or the next two days! I look forward to watching it though!

Well, it is now March 7th, which means that The Complete 9th Series has been released in the UK. That now makes the list:

Series Five, Part One: US: March 15th
Spearhead From Space Steelbox Blu-Ray: UK: March 28th
The Complete 9th Series: UK: Released, US: April 5th
The Underwater Menace (finally!): UK: Released, US: May 24th
Series Five, Part Two: US: May (?)

With the exception of the Spearhead From Space Steelbox Edition, it looks as if the UK won't have any more releases for this year (unless you believe that The Devil's End stuff will ever be released). Everything else on the list is the US/Canada and even our list is growing very short; we might be done in May, only two months after the UK. Well, we will see.

Hopefully we will have dates soon for both the airing and release of Class Series 1 and the airing and release of Doctor Who Series 10, although I think that both releases will be next year. :/

My Series 9 boxset arrived yesterday; i love how there was a lot more effort put into the packaging this time and that it's returned to the template that series 5, 6 and 7 had - quite a lot of extras too which is great

The steelbook looks lovely, the outside part cardboard box looks a but flimsy and the leaflet is a bit short - it would be nice to know on which disk the extras are on without having to put the disks in the player!

The BBC has announced that the BBC Shop is closing on the 29th March (for UK customers) and earlier for the rest of the world.

Sad news, but there may be bargains on old stock

Probably due to their new BBC store.

Breaking news!

Just recieved an email from the BBC shop stating that from 29th March, they will shut down and cease trading. It will also shut down for the rest of the world shortly before.

EDIT: Looks like someone beat me to it lol

Series 1-4 blu rays are now £17 for each season @ amazon.co.uk

Dammit! Ive only just ordered them from the BBC shop after waiting months for the price to drop from £24.99. They'd just reduced them to £21.49. With 10% off that took them to below £20, which was my trigger point.

Mind you, I had got Season 1 on blu ray when it was £15 . Just to see whether the PQ was significantly better than the DVDs I already had. They're not a lot better, as the source is SD rather than HD, but the slight improvement is worth it to me. The audio is significantly improved.

Does that mean all bbc titles will go for stupid amounts on ebay?

The likes of Amazon will still sell them, it's just the BBC's own online shop operation
